Some immigrants came here legally according to the laws of the time. Illegal immigrants in this day and age refer to people who come to this country without following procedure to be here.
Congress is changing the law where as if you are born here ,that does not automatically make you a citizen if one of the parents is an illegal. Makes perfect sense to me. This way you do not have to break up a family,this way everyone in the family gets deported because they snuck into this country illegally.

Many of my ancestors were Native American. I also have German, Irish, Scottish, and English ancestors. If our ancestors came to America legally, than no we are not illegal immigrants.

Indeed we robbed from everybody and kept everything when it came to this country. We surrounded the behavior with wonderful expressions like "Manifest Destiny," but we took the country none the less, both from the Indians and Mexicans who were here before us.
Native American is a misnomer. Those who lived here were nomads which means they wandered with no fixed residence, so even they were immigrants. Your name implies spanish heritage, not Incan which actually built cities and was replaced by your culture. Shouldn't you be fighting for their freedom from your oppression rather than worrying about the lands to your north?

The person asking it knows full well that the definition of "illegal alien" involves breaking the laws of the federal government regarding immigration at the time the immigrant comes to this country.
Since the "native" (a term that must be used loosely since they immigrated here too) tribes had no federal government it was impossible for someone to come illegally.
The era of colonization was not the era we live in, just like every other era that has come and gone. We're not in the industrial revolution anymore either.

Law of conquest, or legal point of controversy? In point of fact, based on anthropological studies, no one is truly a "legal" immigrant if one wants to take the issue far enough. While the Native Americans were here the longest, who said that they could come here anyway? So the Europeans moved in and took over the land and made it their own. Does that make them conquerors and legal land owners any less than tribes that just wandered in? I seriously doubt that this question will ever be resolved, so it really is pointless discussion. I do, however feel that treaties made should be kept as written and the government has not done a good job of that.
