That's a common argument. They are doing jobs Americans won't do. We did fine for a long time without immigrants. We can do it again. I wonder if unemployment would be lower if there were jobs to be had that the immigrants are taking because supposedly, Americans won't take them.
I'm not entirely clear on your question. I think you're asking if immigrants should be allowed to come to the US to work in specific fields where the domestic labor pool has a shortage. I think this sounds reasonable on the surface. There are probably some areas of the country where certain industries have difficulty filling posts. I also think it would require an enormous amount of oversight to avoid employers & immigrants abusing the provision.
It used to be, not that long ago, that you could work construction and support a family of four. Not anymore. It's a less respected trade now when it's done by illegals, and their work is shoddy.

I will agree that there are many that want to do that job but can't find a job because of illegal labor used within construction companies which has cut wages and benefits for American workers.

It pisses me off when I hear that idiot Bush say "jobs Americans won't do." The reason they won't do them is because illegal aliens have driven down the wages!! I think Mexico should raise the minimum wage to equal the United States. Fair trade, Jobs need to be equal and they are not. Why should we train the population to do our work. It is a problem and the problem is we are keeping Mexico a third world nation......People want to leave. They com here to do all of our work and it is only good if you are the employer.

The problem is the Sub-contractors are getting undocumented laborers that they are not having to pay employee taxes,.Worker's Comp Insur. and possibly Un-employment on! It is preferred because they are not being effectively threatened with fines for hiring said un-documented workers, so selling out Americans is cheaper!

Its b.s. Craftsmanship has become a lost art. The quality of work done on these houses is pitiful. Back when highly trained craftsman were allowed to build houses, they took pride in their work, and the houses they built were amazing. Not anymore. I used to work in the construction industry, and I see what has happened. Also, people need to understand, these illegals are making good money. They refuse to work for minimum wage. A lot of them are making 14 -15 dollars per hour.
Well somewhere along the way we American's got to snooty to work for 10.00 an hour. Not to mention the economy got a little to high to survive on 10.00 an hour. So now we're all stuck with wanting more money an hour just to survive. But I do know that these jobs can put college students and others through school. I don't understand it. My teenage son is willing to take that 10.00 an hour job. So the answer is NO. There are plenty of people on walfare that can TAKE THE JOBS! Welfare should ask for some type of compensation in return as well.

I never bought into the whole "jobs that only illegals will do" speech.the truth of the matter is that illegals tend to do jobs at a cheaper price wich the companies that hire them like. And that pretty much they will do any job no matter what it pays. U.S citizens sometimes tend to be a bit more pickier,they either want a better paid or they feel they are beneath a certain job. An example of this would be that while in highschool I worked in housekeeping making beds and cleaning rooms to earn some extra cash. The pay wasn't all that great but it was better than nothing. Yet I constantly would hear from people from other departments why i was working like i was illegal if i was a U.S citizen. or they would be all "oh no i wouldn't work for that pay,hell I get more money with the welfare check i receive". I think if more people would work no matter what the pay is.it would drive down the demand for those people to hire illegals and in return perhaps that would cause illegals to go somewhere else.
