and dont give me the excuse that Immigrants are always studing for citizenship? because I always get that and you all have had the benefit to study in English in an American High school

unfortunately, I think Americans, although they are proud, they still take our freedom and opportunities for success, for granted. They don't have the experience of having to "hope" for freedom and opportunities. It is sad, but just as many in other countries only know poverty or fighting, we only know the honor of true freedom, and have not had to worry about a "better" life in the same manner as someone who has come to our country and been "given" that opportunity. I am American, and proud, but I also know Americans are spoiled, but we born into it and we don't always "see" it . Perhaps we take it for granted, and that is changing in this country and I hope kids today see our freedom as a real privilege. Welcome to the U.S.A...

I think immigrants know the constitution better than Americans because its important (for safety reasons) to learn the laws of a country you plan to live in if you are not familiar with it. Every country has a bunch of weird laws that most people are unfamiliar with, but you don't want to end up in jail for doing something stupid you didn't even know was a crime - especially if you're an immigrant because it might get you deported. An example of a weird law, which is so weird that i'm not even sure if its true, is that in China it is illegal to chew gum or spit in public.
Some certainly can. I would guess that where they come from they have an interest in knowing their rights and obligations as citizens. We Americans tend to take them for granted. We absolutely should know our own constitution and it should be taught in every school as soon as children are capable of reading and understanding what they read. Many of our problems are because we don't understand that document well enough. It's not complex and it was written for all of us to understand. We can't possibly protect our rights if we don't even know what they are.
As immigrants you should know it by heart because you want to belong here (you're begging to be a part of the U.S. of A.).as for us Americans our citizenship is assured.
Why do you have to make it into a racial issue? If all the Mexicans were white and sneaking across and stealing identities I would still be just as upset by it.
Here's a question for you: How come the AngloAmericans had the courage to stand up and fight for their freedom (the Revolution) and the Mexicans just run to America? If things are bad in Mexico, you won't fix them by picking American fruit or building American homes. Get back to Mexico, figure out why things aren't working and get busy fixing them.
I would have a lot more sympathy for illegal immigrants coming here to work and feed their families if they didn't increase crime, increase the tax burden, and then march in the streets demanding their rights. They already have all the rights of citizenship...in Mexico!
**Update: Sorry, illegal immigrants don't get to use big business in America as an excuse to come and take advantage of Americans. Believe it or not, two wrongs still do not make a right. Mexico entered freely into those treaties, just as America did, and now has to live with the consequences, just like America. If you already know what the problems are (as you claim to) then what are you doing to correct them?
I repeat, make Mexico better instead of making America worse. How many states will have to go bankrupt before an illegal immigrant admits they're not helping America but hurting it?

Because our educational system doesn't make it mandatory anymore. Now they are worried more about not offending the 3 percent of the students when they should be teaching them to memorize it. Just like the Pledge of Allegiance. Some bone-headed parent complained that it shouldn't be required.
When I was younger we had to but now we can't allow it and that's a real shame! But I still believe that teachers should be able to discipline too. Old School, ya know!
i have yet to hear a mexican quote the constitution. if they could then they would know what the true meaning of illegal.
