There is no benefit to the USA whatsoever to absorb Mexico. There is only a higher deficit.

No, we would be responsible for getting them free education (they don't have that now) and basic health care etc. The problem with illegal immigration is we are taking on too much of that burden, already, at the expense of our own people.
I think your name says it all... identity crisis is right! This is one of the dumbest things I have heard. It is like what we are already doing in Iraq. Going to war with no just cause. Going to war to Mexico because there are illegals here. Statistics say only 40% of illegals are from Mexico. What about all the rest? Should we not go to war with all their countries? This just makes no sense at all!
I don't like the idea of absorbing another nation because of their problems under the guise that we would somehow profit from it, you and I know that's not right. Mexico fixes Mexico and we mind our own business and deal with the problems we have.
Because, taking over Mexico would be a big burden that would require lots of fixing. We can barely keep the union together as it is. Not all Mexicans want to be American citizens either. If they did, we would have all 100 million of them here legally.
No thanks.. we went to war with them once when they declared war on us... we won, we then gave them money to buy some of their property... that would cause to many problems... we don't really need those problems we have our own citizens to worry about right now

If you would read some of the other posts that guy whose question you cite puts up, then you would realize, he is a propaganda provocateur.
Mexico is corrupt and has resources to care for it's people, it chooses not to do so.
The UN should bring pressure to bear on Mexico for humanitarian reasons.
Many Mexicans hate us. Your idea would inspire even more hate, which seems to be the goal of the asker you cite in your link. The 6th answerer seems to be blithely unaware that her suggestion would be a blatant act of war against Mexico.
She is naive for they would resist. Many would die that she apparently thinks that would save.
