Immigration reform is definately needed, but the amnesty bill was a turd that finally got flushed.
Start enforcing the laws that were created 20 years ago when mass amnest was given.
I think it was a waste of time and tax money,that money should have went toward our border patrol .

I think that it shows Democracy in this country is alive and well but I also think that immgration reform needs to be discussed more and real issues such as border security must be addressed first.
That was not good.
It was a terrible bill, and the press clearly never read it. You heard about the amnesty for 12 million (including many felons) I'm sure. But did you hear it had a 10 year rolling statute of limitations so that everyone who came illegally and hid under fake ID for 10 years would thereafter be safe from prosecution?
I never heard that ONCE in the press, yet the press was full of how we supposedly didn't understand what was in the bill.
However, we did understand what was in the bill, and that is why we didn't like it.
It would have increased the illegal immigration that is ruining our schools and services for our own people and would have doubled legal immigration on top of that. Enforcement had 'humanitarian' exceptions by discretion, throughout. And remember, if the government had WANTED to enforce our laws, we would never have gotten into this situation to begin with.
There is a complete lack of faith in the government that actually goes further than that. One station put it as 'this is not the Democrats against the Republicans, this is the people against the government.'
It certainly felt that way.
It's a good first step, we still need the border wall built and to start the deportations. We need to crack down on employers who hire illegals and we need to stop giving government assistance to illegals just because their children were born here.
i think its a good thing, you know if the president and democrats agree on something it must be wrong, BTW I'm unaffiliated politically and tend to be more conservative.
I think it had problems, but I also think that this is so dangerous politically for Congress, they are just avoiding it by refusing to deal. They'll lose voters no matter what they decide, so they've decided not to decide.
Our system of government is about compromise, and now a compromise will have to wait for a new set of characters. In the meantime, nothing is better for either side of the argument. It has been just a waste of time.
