If Latin America had more social justice, wouldn't that solve illegal immigration?

Think about it.

The main reason so many people sneak into the USA is because they have no future in their own countries. The HUGE problem in Latin America is racism: a very small elite controls most of the wealth in each one of our countries.

Since they have the wealth, they are also the ones in control of the army and the businesses. They are the ones who deal with the First World, who supports them. Since they feel they have nothing to fear from elections or from justice, they are corrupt.

Instad of trying to make walls high enough to prevent Hispanics from crossing, should the USA do her best to stop the Feudal system still in existence South of the border?

Stop trading with the corrupt, racist Latin American white elites. Force them to hold real elections, where all parties are represented and not only those they approve of. Force them to integrate their people, to allow their majority of Black, Mulatto, Amerindian and Mestizo people to get health care, education, etc.

Answer:
You are absolutely correct that our problems with illegal immigration stem from corruption, and the uneven distribution of wealth in Latin America. Ultimately, the vast majority of the richness of Latin America is held in too few hands.

The U.S., being one of the largest consumers of Latin American products, can use its political and economic muscle to elicit more equitable circumstances for Latin America’s downtrodden and marginalized groups. Unfortunately, in this country our political elites are in cahoots with those in Latin America, and that is why they are not being responsive to this great moral and economic concern.

Our government will only sever its ties with the elites of Latin America, when the American citizenry lives up to their noble reputation, as expounding in patriotic slogans, and vote elitists with connection to big business out of office, and vote in men and women who have as there top priority the good of the American people and the people of the world.

If there is one thing that we have learned in this age of globalization and eroding borders, it is that care and concern for the betterment of people outside our borders, will engender what is best for our people at home.
no they want all of our jobs and our homes and our schools for their illegal kids and they want our wives and daughters oh and they want all of our beer too
I think many sneak in for the freebies!
I thought you latin types didn't like us whiteys meddling in other peooples affairs, like Chavez has said a million times over, just blame white people,,,nobody will argue with you,,and you will remain the victim,,,\

using birth control would help the issue out a lot
The problem is that Latin America has been conquered and ruled by tyrants for a long time...Just during this current Mexican presidency is the first time that there is discussion and concerted efforts at having integrity while in power. There has been historically a lot of thieving of natural resources and so people accept that as part of what life is all about. There will need to be a long healing process for social change to take hold.
USA has enough problems and curing the corruption, racism, and greed in the Latin American countries is their job not the USA
The people are going to have to grow spines and stand up for their selves and not steal into the USA in dark of night
the WALL will help force them to cure their own problems and quit giving the uneducated, criminal and Rejects to the USA in dark of night
Blame yourselves not the USA for your gov lack of civilization
Because we've done so well in Iraq?
Force in the context you are using it, can be construed as force of authority. Force of authority is the definition for coercion. If we the United States coerce another government to per say end corruption, making us a foreign entity in their eyes, wouldn't that be the same as terrorism? And isn't this what we are supposedly fighting against? Terrorism that is.
To lawrence louis; the good of the american ppl should always be the top priority, as for the rest of the world, we should LEAD by example, but the ultimate choice should be theirs to change their situation. Not ours.
Of course it would. But you don't tell us how we can change things except by our governments involvement in their affairs. Our government is not about to do anything to help those people. We have too many who represent us that have ties to the corrupt in those countries. That's like asking for a total change in our own corrupt government! Not gonna happen. Too many believe that our government really represent the people, total lie, they represent the special interests. They could care less about the poor & unemployed in this country. They are the ones that have created this situation & unless we take back our government; things will never change. The question is: How do we take back our government?
Well said, the south American governments are very corrupt. The mexican government hires 40000 Guatemalans per year to do the jobs the mexicans wont. Go figure. Building the fence and immediate mass deportation of all "illegals" including the so called anchor babies is the only way. political rhetoric doesn't work
Jose,I totally agree with you on what needs to be done. You are probably not going to like my proposal. I say completely lock down our ( not for ever) border.Shut down NAFTA completely. Then start boycotting Mexico. When Mexico starts taking care of their poor and we have proof, then we can open the borders back up.Mexico is supposedly controlled by drug cartels which are really terrorists. If they need help getting rid of these people, the USA can help.

In response to some of the answers. Why is the USA meddling inthe affairs of Chavez. Most of you know and are acting like you do not know.If it was not for the natural resources of Oil and gas,the USA woiuld not even pay attention to Venezuela. The USA has no business messing with that country, just because oil companies are worried about their profits.
I LOVE your question. Social justice is established on the back of struggle and revolution. Nothing less. The peasants need to pick their machettis and walk over to the landowners! All the successful nations in Europe had bloody uprising a la French revolution before evolving towards ideas of freedom and liberty. It needs to happen in MExico!
Yes, Yes, you are correct!!! and better and uncorrupted government., then and only then Latin America would have a better life for all.
How about, we start teaching something really basic to our neighbors to the South:
Sneaking into America is dangerous, illegal and possibly deadly.
How do we teach that:
We build a fence, electrify that bad boy and sit back and wait.

I am tired of people making excuses for criminals, it is not my governments job to make another country do what is right for it's people ( tho apparently, my government wastes a lot of time doing just that.)
It would appear to me that the only way there is going to be any social justice in Mexico is if the inhabitants of Mexico win a social revolution, overthrow their government and create a country they can be proud to call home.
Let's put the responsibility on Mexico's failure where it lies :
The Mexican People
Excellent.excellent,excellent.... Jose, I been thinking about this for years and there is no other way around "Social Justice" is the main Reason why 3rd world countries cann't develope I also think that one of the ways to solve this is with Awareness and you can only get there thru EDUCATION. But the problem is that Eduacation isnt available to everybody due to extreme levels of poverty and the available education isnt good enough. Now Should our goverment do something about it, I think so after all AMERICA is the #1 protector of the human Race. Thats Why god is always blessing America!
The US Government doesn't WANT to stop the steady flow of cheap labor. The people who WANT the labor are those that pay the elected people's ability to be re-elected. They don't want to stop the ability for certain people to be able to pay for cheap labor that they don't have to pay taxes on, and even better L and I if a person gets hurt. Don't believe me, WHO was it who got corp. welfare AFTER making record earnings? The people who are in office want to make the rich happy...And that even goes towards the rich across the boarder. You DO know that the "President" in Mexico TELLS the poor HOW to cross the border and even to the point at handing out PAMPHLETS that tell them HOW to cross? The people who come across the border are the people that the country doesn't want to begin with. They give the US all their welfare problems!

Fences make good neighbors for a reason, although Bush doesn't seem to understand this, because he is wanting a "Free" zone going all the way from Canada through the US and to Mexico. Not kidding! This is being done mostly under Congresses radar, but they would have to change our Constitution big time to get it to actually happen.
Wrong, the problem in Latin countries is not a problem of race. its a problem of rich vs poor. there are rich whites, rich mestizo, rich indians, poor whites, poor mestizo, poor indians.
Yes. I'd say though that if Latin America was richer it would solve illegal immigration. And becoming a rich country is not only a matter of political will. Although many would like to believe so, cause they see themselfes as culturally superior.

Although almost all white Latin American are from middle or upper classes, there are lots of non-whites on those classes. Comparing with other multiracial countries racism in Latin America is quite low, the problem is that lack of education of the poorer classes, what is an obstacle for them to get better jobs.

In Latin America there is not a feudal system, but poverty.

Real elections are held in all Latin American countries but Cuba. All parties are represented. If not, how would socialists like Hugo Chávez, Evo Morales or Rafael Correa be ellected? Unlike in the US, in Latin America all citizes has the right of free healthcare and free education, but it lacks quality.
