In plain english, how to immgrate from UK to US?
My friend in UK wants to immigrate to US permanently and get a job. What does he need to get to accomplish this?
Also are there any sites where things are laid out in plain english?
Thanks for your help.
Answer:
He can get a green card the following ways:
1. Through family. If he wants to marry an American citizen, then he can apply for a K1 visa first, get married, and apply for the Permanent resident card. He'll be issued a provisional visa that will last for 2 years; thereafter, he can obtain a permanent card.
He may also come in through other citizen family members.
2. Employment sponsership: Does your husband have any special skills: education, world reknown for anything in particular, a world-class athlete, artist, scholar, et al? Otherwise, he needs to have an employer sponser him. If he gets hired by an American corporation abroad, he may be able to transfer to the US under a special visa.
Does this help?
Sorry, the country's filled to capacity.
He could visit the US and fall in love and marry a citizen while on holiday and get permanant citizneship that way as well..
Get a visa to enter the USA. Once you are in, you made it. When the visa expires, just forget about it and continue to stay. No one will find out unless you are arrested for crime or something. There are millions of us here in the USA who just come here and stay. If you want to do everything legally, you can forget it. They do not want you here, Its an American thing. They have to be AMERICAN, like pure or something. But everyone has no idea, they all came from out side, except native American Indian, the land belong to them.
I would look on the Immigration and customs website.

Good luck!
Here is the link to the Dept. of Homeland Security. They handle immigration issues:

Good luck to your friend!
Plain English it is difficult cos you will need a green card to work there that could take a couple of years. Also have a job to go to which again will be difficult because there are so many unemployed Americans. Apply to British companies over here looking for overseas employers, they will be able to help you get a working visa/green card quicker.
Marrying a US citizen used to be one way to get in, but unfortunately, they have taken that pleasure away from us. I am British and married to a US citizen but we live in the UK.
Personally after spending a fair bit of time there, I feel safer in this country.
