Does being on the F1 student visa in the United States mean that you are?
I didn't think so, but I was hoping somebody would tell me different? :( I wanted to try auditioning for the American Idol.
Answer:
F1 status does not allow you to work unless it is through your school, it simply gives you the right to live in the US while attending a particular school. Once you graduate you will have to leave again, unless you find some other way to stay. I am not sure how this American Idol thing works, are you paid? Do you have to pay taxes? If so, then no, you are not allowed to do it. If you have any intentions on staying in the US, don't screw yourself. Seek an employment sponsored visa before you graduate (I believe this is rather hard to do). Another way to become a perm resident is of course marriage to a US citizen, however, I certainly don't recommend that unless it is the real deal. Good luck with your dream!
Based on what I've read, you can't work with a student VISA. I might be wrong on the numbers.
You defiantly aren't a "permanent resident" since they expire.
yes, you can work, but only in your school.
if you want work outside, be a "contractor".
no need of work permit.
work permit are too expensive and paying taxes is not a good deal nowadays.
