Would you support giving these people a chance at citizenship if you knew enforcement was priority?
Answer:
If the bill eliminated opening doors for more.
If the bill mandated immediate and unequivocal security at our borders.
If the bill mandated that all legal immigrants are given a priority status.
If the bill mandated that illegals granted status who pays into social security less than 25 years is ineligible for SS and Medicare benefits.
If any person, after a THOROUGH background check here and in home nations and other nations they have been in, proves that
1. They have not committed any other crimes.
2. Have not damaged property of anyone, i.e. rental homes.
3. Have not received any benefits at taxpayers expense or are ready to promptly and in full reimburse the government for those benefits.
4. Speak or agree to learn to speak English and understand that remaining here legally is contigent on fluency in English.
Then yes, I would agree.
But this bill does not require much of them. It is flawed.
You just basically described the CIR. The triggers have to go in effect before people are legalized.
I would look at this entire illegal immigration issue from a different view IF we had *anything* to show us that they honestly would STOP illegal immigration.
This is just more of the same from 1987. And this time it's of the utmost importance that we secure our borders. It's a different world than it was.
Not when there are SO many who are trying to go through the system legally. No one here illegally should be fast tracked.
Show me the fence. This is more for me not beleiving a word of what our government says than wondering if there's a few who deserve citizenship. A priority isn't enough. Done, finished, working..then we'll talk. Till then.all they do is say it's priority, say something. I'm done listening to empty promises. I want to see totally fullfilled ACTION. Not half a fence.not part of something. DONE. We deserve that much. We are supposed to have that already. It's not a compromise when we haven't got the minimul we are already supposed to have. LAW.not just what the majority would like after the fact. I want what is already do. I mean would you work and agree on a fee..do your job and then have the boss say no...but if you're real good and work for another 6 mos. for the same fee..I'll pay you this check then. Ya...but nothing about when you get the 6 mos. worth of pay you will be working. You gonna beleive this guy? NO! You gonna do it on his word? NO!
Screw me once shame on you..we did the amnesty and we went with "national security" and we've watched everything BUT our law enforced. No...sorry..there's been chances and time and all the "reasons" in the world. I don't want to hear squat. I want to see some action. NOW. I no more beleive the government than I beleive all the 20 mil. are ALL good honest working people. SHOW ME. It's NOT what I see. I don't believe empty words. The thought doesn't count in this case. I want real 100% action. Nothing less.
The problem is that I know enforcement won't be a priority. They'll do just enough to be able to say "we're really trying" for a short time, then the 'only' solution will be the North American Union. How many times have our leaders said we can't enforce our current immigration laws (we obviously could but they won't allow it)? I don't think open borders and a smack on the wrist for a few of the illegals will solve this problem (not for the citizens who are being displaced by illegal aliens in jobs, education, etc.). Secure the border, enforce our current laws, and then we can talk about a path to citizenship for SOME of them, not most of them.
The crux of this whole issue is that of stopping any ADDITIONAL illegal immigration. And in such an effective manner that border security would be a moot issue in the future.....
If we could accomplish that, all other aspects of this problem needn't be dealt with. Eventually, the illegals currently within the U.S. would melt into the pot or return to their own country - problem solved! There would be no new illegal entry ( I realize nothing's perfect, so a few might creep in) so U.S. jobs would no longer be threatened - problem solved! There would be no additional loading of our social programs because there would be no new applicants - problem solved!
Maybe, after law enforcement proves that they can secure our borders, we can grant some citizenships, but not until we're certain that illegal entry has been stopped once and for all. Until then, no other aspects of this issue should be considered.
REPRESENT US - NOT THOSE WHO DO US HARM
it's not these people's fault that the government is not doing much on the border. and it they don't do enough down there, how can that lead to people saying "oh, the government did not secure our borders, let's not give these illegals a chnace." it's not up to you to decide.
the government knows what it has to do. but you can't just sit there and let those people remain "illegal," those 12 million are in fact not going anywhere.
