I am marrying an australian girl? How long will it take to get citizenship?

Answer:
Are you talking about how long it will take you to obtain Australian Citizenship after marrying your finace?

If you are the answer is 4 years from when you obtain your spouse provisional visa and enter Australia.
I think they'll put you on some sort of temporary visa to begin with, until you've lived in the country for a while. They cracked down on it a bit to stop marriages of convenience.
Are you marrying the Aussie girl just for citizenship? I ask this because that's what it sounds like fom your question. I'm a mutlinational; Australia being one of my citizenships. There are several bills being debated in parliament about lengthening the time it takes a PR to become a citizen.

Parliament is trying to extend it to 4 years of PR before any Permanent Resident can apply for citizenship. They are also including other stricter measures e.g citizenship tests etc. However, at the moment, you can apply for citizenship after maintaining PR for 2 years. You must be continuously living in Australia for at least 2 out of every 5 years to maintain PR.

Before you apply for citizenship you must have been a PR for at least 2 years and have been living in Australia for 12 consecutive months before you apply for citizenship and you must prove that you are going to maintain close ties with Australia before you are granted citizenship.

You are given a temporary spousal visa before being granted Permanent REsidency, just as a measure to crack down on sham marriages.
she'll have to become a permanent resident first. You get married...fill out all of the immigration paperwork (I-485, I-765, I-130, I-864 or I864EZ, I-325a) and then you'll get an interview within a year or so after everything is approved. She'll get a work authorization and an SSN long before the interview...be patient on the citizenship...it'll be at least five years for that....~~~~W
You sound like marriage fraud !
It will take no time for the immigration to find out about ur intention & ship u back to ur nice home land.
In the US the INS has caught much who do this due to knew strict laws & harsh interviews & checks.
I don't know because there are many factors but it will feel like forever and you all will be spending some money on CIS fees.
the correct answer will be by the Australian ins..
This can take years. You might want to consult with an immigration lawyer who is in good standing.
OK....If you are talking about US citizenship for her after you are married, I can answer that.....

About 8 months to a year before you return to the US you can start the visa process. Go to the US embassy and do a Direct Consular Filing (DCF) for a CR-1 visa (2 Year conditional green card). To do that you will need to file an I-180 and a G-325a's for the both of you with all the appropriate fees. More fees and form will need to be paid as time goes on, but that is the price we pay.

If you have been married for over 2 years when she goes for the interview, instead of a CR-1 visa, she will get an IR-1 visa which will qualify her for a 10 year card.

Now for US citizenship....It usually takes an immigrant 7 years to qualify for citizenship unless they join the US military which drops it to 1 year, but am immigrant wife is eligible for citizenship after three years constant residence in the US......

Hope it helps
