MERIDA, Mexico — President Bush, seeking to rebuild ties with Mexico, pledged Wednesday to intensify efforts to overhaul U.S. immigration laws and crack down on illegal drug trafficking.
Bush said that he senses there has been a change of attitudes in Congress about updating immigration laws, from skepticism last year to recognition now that changes are in U.S. interests.
"I will work with Congress, members of both political parties, to pass immigration law that will enable us to respect the rule of law -- and at the same time, respect humanity," Bush said in a news conference with Mexican President Felipe Calderon.

One of the major problems with Mexico is the drug trade. The demand for drugs in the US is disgusting. What kind of society are we that we need "drugs" to null our brains. We have a great life in the US,why do millions of losers need drugs to get thru the day ? And just because there is a huge demand/market for drugs in the US doesn't mean that any one has to meet that demand.

No one should profit by making drugs more available to weak.willed dug abusers. The government has done NOTHING to win the battle on drug abuse.All the do is talk and spend billions on surveys. That's simply ridicules.

butt he cant see the problem is here in America . We must Fix our problems before we open our country's doors to millions more people. We must stop drug abuse and the demand would stop. I don't think of it as an illness in any way ,its a weakness of mind and will power. Treat the drug users as the criminals they are. Not as some poor victim.

He will "work with Congress" - fine. Congress passes the bills and if they, hopefully, don't pass a bill with amnesty, there isn't amnesty no matter how much George wants it. That statement doesn't mean that he promises that it will happen (even though Mexico probably thinks that's what is being said.)
