The illegals I work with all have told me it cost about $3,000-$3,500 to get here by way of a coyote[smuggler]. The relatives who are here send money to the ones who aren't here and when they have enough money to pay the smuggler, they start walking until they get to the border, meet the smuggler at a set destination, pay the smuggler and they take them to a certain destination in the US.When they have gone as far as the smugglers will take them, then they catch a bus to where ever they need to go, or a relative will meet them sometimes hundreds of miles away and bring them to the family and the family usually can get work for them. If you ever see a bus with the word Gratis or Tornado written on it , this is a bus transporting people to and from the border of Mexico some legal some not!!!!!!!!!... Can they afford $5,000 for a penalty, yes if they were made to pay, this is a joke though, they will never be made to pay out of pocket money to stay here, nor would they, all of this border talk and new laws and amnesty and our gov. and our legal citizens are all a laughing joke to these people. The illegals have the upper hand and will keep it and grow with it. It is impossible to change this because our gov. and local police have let it go for to long.

I just heard the "coyotes" are charging $3000 to $5000 per person to smuggle them in. I don't imagine they offer a payment plan either...

Excellent point! Not only do they pay thousands of dollars, the also have no guarantees--unlike the proposed legislation and it's $5, 000.00!

If they can afford to pay coyotes, they can afford to pay back the US tax payers.
When my granpappy came here, he paid for his passage. I don't know what the cost would be in today's dollars, but it took a long time to save up for it. Also, no welfare was waiting to help him; he didn't expect the American tax payer to foot the bill. He expect to become an hardworking American. Note: He became an American; he didn't whine about his culture, his country. Afterall, if his country had been so great to him, why did he leave?
