US citizens screaming AMNESTY? Word doesn't even apply. There are punative measures in place. STOP THE HATE!
Answer:
thank you, I could not agree more, considering the Puritans immigrated here illegally, should we not kick everyone descended from them out? Would not happen. So let's just ge the comprehensive immigration bill passed that secures the borders and provide a path to citizenship.
They will get temporary legal status contingent on obtaining a work permit. They would have to apply for a work permit which would expire after 1-2 years( they are still fighting over THAT time limit) with the option to renew it ONE time only after that.
It is not amnesty, the whole process is not without punishment for the people who would benefit from the bill. It will not be free. As it stands right now
to apply for residency
application fee $325.00- I-130 form (this is just for the Department of Justice to approve that to say they are eligible to apply for a green card)
For work permit $180.00
Adjustment of status $325.00 form I-485 which adjusts their status to legal alien with a "green card" number
For this "path to citizenship they are proposing"
For every year they were here which they will have to prove and they have had to have been here by a specific cut off date
1) The bill wants to have them pay BACK TAXES ( this might be removed)
2) they have to pay a fine of about $5,000 ( might get lowered to $2,000)
3) Retaining an immigration attorney to do paperwork alone is about $1,500- $3,000
total so far:- $7,330-$8,830 and this does not count the back taxes.
As of August 1,2007, the application fees will triple so..
$1,010 I-130
$ 340 work permit
$1,010- I -485
total $8,860-$10,360. This does not even factor in an application for a child under the age of 14 which would add an additional $600 or an adult parent such as a grandmother over the age of 79 which would add an additonal $930 not the mention those BACK TAXES. All told if it is a family of 4 2 adults, 2 kids their bill alone would $17,420-$18,920
On the minimum wages most of these people get, they won't meet those levels.
They have to go to back of the line ,so to speak, of those who already put in their paperwork.
then when they become residents, they would have to wait the 5 years before they could apply for citizenship, which would be another $675.
In the meantime, they will be paying taxes. The process could possibly take about 11 years.
Amnesty
noun
1. a period during which offenders are exempt from punishment
Those exhorbitant fees on what they make does not come across to me as getting in without consequences
It's amnesty!! DEPORT THOSE CRIMINALS!!

Do your children go to public school?
Because they are overcrowded, on year round schedules, with emergency credentialed teachers and our own children's programs slashed across the board to fund ESL and intervention programs for the children of those illegally here. Yet NONE of the so called 'comprehensive' reforms even attempt to address the impacts on us of subsidizing the 'cheap' work force for employers.
Their children are not more important than ours, and the ever increasing profits of big business at the expense of the workers' wages certainly carries no weight with us.
A general pardon granted by a government= Amnesty. The word fits perfectly.
Calling amnesty "a bs word for the uneducated" is hardly going to stop the hate. Some of these people might actually have first hand experience with illegals and feel passionately about their position. (Others are just plain ignorant of course)
Maybe the rest of our criminals should be able to pay their way out of jail for their offenses. Just a little at a time, so they can afford it (especially if they have families that need them). And maybe spend one or two days a month in jail until they are done paying. It's too costly and makes no sense to try to keep them all in jail, right? It wouldn't be AMNESTY, would it? Oh, and make them sign a paper promising to never be bad again.
It's basically the same thing. And I am in favor of neither. But it's odd that so many pro-illegal arguments could be used for our non violent offenders, yet no one wants to offer them amnesty. No one wants to help keep these families together or help the offender reintegrate into society. Their records follow them for life and the loss of opportunities is often permanent.
PREACH MY FRIEND!!!
They don't know the meaning of Amnesty.
get a clue, you have none now. Immigration has always had quotas. BTW, when you let a illegal stay that is Amnesty. The Pu native measures will be submitted as a amendment, they are not there now in the bill Bush supports..
Relax, sweetheart. What should happen is the laws that are and have been in place should be enforced, and those that are here ILLEGALLY should be sent back to from whence they came. Its not a racist issue; I'm Irish, and if that many Irishmen were here ILLEGALLY, I'd say the same thing; ship 'em back. I dont hate these people, I hate that they are breaking the law...12 Million criminals living here, most not paying taxes, and most unskilled labor. Don't say they aren't criminals, because being here ILLEGALLY makes them so. I would have no problem if all 12 Million of them were here LEGALLY.
How dare you. They started the hate, coming here to take away our jobs and using our tax dollars. They can't even be bothered to finish high school.
Flying Mexican flags at their demonstrations?
It's not impossible to kick them all out. It might take years, but I'm fine with that.
Decent human beings don't ignore the law, then justify it because they're being selfish.
Cheap Mexican labor takes food out of my kids' mouth.
Send them all home. Our country is nearly bankrupt now. We can't afford to pay Social Security for all of them.
Our ancestors came here to be Americans. The Mexicans are content to be serfs. Let them go home and live in the mess of a country they created instead of dragging this country down with them.
They came here illegally so... they should be allowed to stay why?
That's right , they shouldnt.
Is there a question here? Because it sounds like an opinion. My family has been here over 10,000 years and we regret letting your people in.
Illegal immigration is in the forefront of our national security. If undocumented Aliens can slip into this country so can our enemies. In fact they already have. We need to secure our borders especially our southern border where radical Islamics sneak in disguised as migrant workers.
A general amnesty would allow us to have a national registry. Any one not registering should be consider an enemy of the state and treated as such.
I think it's called Amnesty, because all illegal aliens are in violation of immigration laws and subject to immediate deportation. In other words, we know they are criminals, but many wish to erase their debt to society and welcome them.
It's not impossible to deport all illegals. People say that, because they have a reason for keeping the illegals here. Government says that, because they are furthering the interests of big business.
Big business wants the illegals, as a (never-ending) source of cheaper labor.
Most of the illegals are Mexican. If Americans tried the same illegal immigration tricks in Mexico, they'd be thrown in prison, and rightly so. But in the U.S., this sort of law-breaking is encouraged, only because big business wants the law-breakers.
Illegal aliens are a huge drain on the economies of certain states. Also, there numbers contain a high percentage of murderers, rapists, and robbers. We don't need and we don't want them.
Your rationalizing the problem doesn't help. If illegals were dealt with the same (swiftly) as, say, speeders on the highway, they'd be deported soon after found. Contract law is fairly simple...
Denying that the so-called "immigration reform" bill is amnesty is ridiculous. You can't change the essential nature of a thing just by calling it something different. You might change a person's perception of the thing, as your perception has been changed, but the thing remains the same.
btw, the so-called "immigration reform" bill not only grants amnesty to the invaders, it also grants amnesty to the people who break the law by hiring them, since they can defend themselves just by swearing that they thought they weren't breaking the law.
You should drop your phony fervor and learn to think before you type. Just a suggestion, of course...
JMB
How soon we forget!!!
We did this in 1987 and promised the American taxpayer that the border would be secured and we would have no more problems with illegals.
What a crock that was and still is.
People who do not contribute to the cost of social programs shouldn't be a burden on the rest of us. For each dollar an illegal contributes it cost American tax payers two dollars to sustain them.
With the cost of coming forward do you really think they will. I dont think that many will come forward and pay the fine and back taxes. They ignore the laws on the books now so why would they obey this one?
It is amnesty. There is already a path to citizenship laid out in our immigration laws. These people are here ILLEGALLY. To give them a path to citizenship after they make a criminal entry into our country, then the result, is amnesty.
The policicans have you going for their old line also I see.
There are punative measures in place but are you naive enough to think that they are actually going to implement any of them.
Punish the companies that hire - and they will leave on their own. There is A LOT we can do about them, and should do becuase it wont stop with them. They will just keep flooding over.
I couldn't agree with you more! you said it, i wish i did first.
