They're not Mexican; they're not in Mexico, so why should they have to assimilate to a foreign culture?

If they live in Mexico, then I would say yes they should. If they live in the USA they should melt into our pot.

My personal belief is that whatever country I choose to live in (and there have been several for varying lengths of time)I should assimilate...Does not mean I lose my identity...only means I adopt the customs and lanuage of my host country as much as I am able.

I think that if they don't want Mexicans in our country, they shouldn't want Cubans, Puerto Ricans, Haitians etc... in our country either. Mexicans are hard working people .

Besides...the Cubans have been here along time, I doubt you could convince them of that idea.Their people will no doubt ease their transformation.......

You need to assimilate into a global culture. There is no such thing as an American. They are all immigrants, all the way back to Christopher Columbus. And the locals, the indigenous people, do not call themselves Americans. There is an exception to this rule. Bigots and white trash are definitely American.
There's a heck of a presumption there: that we have a Mexican/American culture or democracy --- neither of which are true. Therefore, there should be no expectation that Cubans or Haitians or martians should be expected to adapt to this non-true statement.
Fact is, America is great because of its ability to absorb and celebrate the differences among us, yet continue to enjoy our unique, homogenous culture. This is not, a Mexican/American government. Never was, never will be.
Cubans, Haitians, and martians should be expected to adapt to the US culture, language and all, if they LEGALLY immigrate to the US.
If the immigration is not legal, turn around and go back.
What Mexican-American culture? We are not a democracy we are a democratic republic and yes all that come here including Mexicans need to assimilate to most of our culture. Just as I would if i moved to Mexico(god fore bid) . Good for a visit but not for ever.

Sorry, but much of Mexican "culture" was donated to them by the Spaniards (including foods like your beans, tacos, etc. - those didn't exist before the gringo Conquistadores conquered you).

I agree. 100%. At least Cubans speak Spanish one of the most important areas of our Mexican-American culture.
Haitians speak French, a latin-brother language for us Latinos.
