Why do people think...?

...that bilingual classes cost extra money?

my mother is a bilingual teacher herself, and she makes the same amount as the rest of the teachers at that school.

and sure, she is funded by taxes, but so is every other teacher! unless you are a professor at a college, all teachers are funded through taxes

and if you think the school is a failing or bad school, you're wrong because its one of the top schools in the GISD district.

so why do people keep complaining about these classes? they are meant to help kids learn english! i thought that's what people wanted

then why are they trying to get rid of them?

Answer:
look he has apoint and also i think you will get alot of s**t for writing this all they are scared of listening to is the truth but, all they hear is blah blah blah b/cuz they have been educated that way i will give you a star love it keep it up
Wow one school.

The point is, I volunteer to help at a kindergarten, and it is half spanish half english. This is the time when they should be learning english only, not subjected to another language. Its a waste of time. If you want them to become professionals teach them the professional language of America.

Well I think this is not a bilingual class, perhaps there is some merit to that, but for my school, they just give it both to them. Should the kids who already speak only english learn spanish as well at this time? What do you think that the school revolves around hispanic kids?
Because they just say that so they can have an excuse to hate on hispanics. It doesn't matter if it's true or not if it is something negative they will believe it.
Funny isn't it, the same people that complain immigrants can't speak English are the ones that resist any attempt to teach them.
Because it's true.. Learn English or go home!
If Mom is a bi-lingual teacher, I commend her. We are in desperate need of quality teachers. Kudos to Mom!!
If you live in the U.S. you should know English before you ever go to school. Not be a burden on other kids. Illegals slow down the learning process.
Because a bilingual teacher is someone we wouldn't need if OUR language was being spoken in OUR country. So to pay yet one more teacher to teach people something that they should already know does cost more money. The only other languages that should be taught are the ones that OUR citizens want to learn. English should not be taught as a second language in an English speaking country. If these people aren't going to learn the language before they come here and they want to learn the language after the fact they can pay for it on their own.
It is a waste of resources to try to teach english to the cucarachitos, they are not going to assimulate into our culture.
Just like you said.she is funded by taxes. More so than other teachers.

I just have to ask you this question...how many students under this method are proficient in English.and if it's bi-lingual.how many more are proficient in Spanish? NONE. There are more people who graduate from school who can't speak A sentence in English without a translator. And there's no English students who are more profecient in Spanish. This is a 20 year effort to NOTHING!!.

Hey ..I'm a proud graduate from the "new math" generation that can't do math. My Kids are from the new "writing to read" method of learning English without phonics..they can't spell or write squat and are lucky they can read. It was and is a failed program. This bi-lingual program is a failure!!! My one daughter is 20.she don't speak Spanish.but she does speak English and German fluently. The other is a sophmore.not a word of Spanish. Where's the "bi-lingual" benefit in this? Please.tell me where? Their Spanish friends don't speak English either. ALL in school at the same time. Where is the benefit? This is over 20 years!!! IT DOESN"T WORK!!
It has to cost extra money. I was at a meeting at my children's school and asked them why the Spanish lessons had been stopped for English speaking students. They said "lack of funding" and would give no further comments. So if it costs money to teach my kids Spanish a few times a week then it costs money to provide hispanics with bilingual education. Technically it shouldn't cost them anything but a little time to teach my kids Spanish as most of the teachers have to be bilingual, I just think they were told to concentrate on the 'poor immigrants'.

My kids are at one of those primarily hispanic schools that get free breakfast and free lunch. I've seen most of these students and none of them look like they are going hungry at home. But they can afford to feed the fat little kids of 'immigrants' rather than give my kids a decent education. I have to explain most of their lessons to them at home.
It is a burden on the other children,it adds to our taxes and you should speak English before you ever touch American soil. Illegal children should not be attending school period,we should not have to pay for them.
Here is how it works; I went back to visit at my little rural grade school. The student population is about 220. The principal (my former student teacher) told me that they had gotten lucky recently. They found a certified teacher that speak Vietnamese and Spanish. If they hadn't done that then they would have been required to hire an extra teacher to teach one child. Plus they had to hire a teacher that could sign for one child. That comes out to extra expense for the school and that comes from the tax payer.
The classes themselves do not cost extra money but they do cost extra money to support them. My mother retired after 30 years of service as an administrator in the public school system. The schools she worked with had to hire an extra teacher who spoke Spanish for each class in order to accomodate for those students who did not speak English. That alone doubled the schools budget on teacher payroll. This put an horrible strain on the school districts expenses, which caused other areas of education to be eliminated in order to have the budjet to continue the education process. Music programs-canceled in order to pay for Spanish speaking teachers. Art programs-canceled in order to pay for Spanish speaking teachers. The list goes on and on. You can attempt to spin it anyway you please but you will continually be spinning in circles.
We just don't want to pay for them for people illegally here when it means cutting programs for our own people. You will note that the recent Senate Bill did in fact address failing education and health care.in MEXICO. It is the impact of illegal immigration on education and health care HERE that we think should be the proper concern of our government.

And your mother's salary aside, the 'support' programs and texts and intervention for families and cost of lack of progress of students makes it far more expensive. Go look up your school district's budget, and remember that if they go to full day school days in LAUSD, it is not going to be 'to benefit native students'.
They do cost extra.
If the children spoke English as American kids are taught from birth, there would be no need for these classes.
Many of the illegal alien students require remedial classes.
Many are receiving free lunches.
The illegal alien parents of these kids should be required to pay tuition to those classes.
people who think like that usually the ones that are afraid that Spanish will become he major language in the US
personally I see nothing wrong with being bi-lingual

I mean as long as ppl speak English, who cares?
bilingual classes is part of the education, its not an extra expense, if they dont want take it and keep their kids retarded its their problem.
With a minimum of 15 million illegal aliens in our country, these figures are the tip of the iceberg. Average bilingual education is $1,200.00 per illegal alien student. Get this! We educate 1.1 million illegal alien children each year. Do the math! Ready for another anvil dropped on your toe fact? You paid $27 billion to provide forms, ballots, interpreters and brochures for languages other than English in 2003.
