Is it legal to ask about my family status ie. marriage and dependents in a (for) real estate agent interview?

You don't have to answer, but is important to some brokers to know the stability of their agents.
It's not legal. You can say "I'd prefer not to answer that," but that can make you seem strange.
I'd like a copy of the book for the new rules myself. I've gone through my whole life having my "civil" rights abused. They have mounds of "personal" information on me they don't need and have no right to have. I wish I would have known all I had to do was scream alot a wait and they'd change the laws for me. The ACLU sure wasn't there fighting for my rights then. I mean where were they when they made us put our SS#s and 3 forms of ID on each check a few years ago? Talk about making ID theft a piece of cake!! But no..no where to be found. Guess it was ok then. Made it easy for the situation now.
I mean why was it OK and mandatory for me to give my kids SS#s on a job application? You would think if it's illegal they would have stopped it years and years ago! Why did I have to provide SS#s and proof of residency and shot records when me and when my kids went to school? OK for 40 years and now it's wrong? Hey.I just want an update. I want this business of requiring to have a "store card" for every friggin store to get the items they advertise as being on sale.for the sale price. There's all these ways they make me have to provide things and yet they can't ask an illegal with no ID any questions? Lord.I've had to give my finger-print to cash a check...at my own bank. Don't get the double-standard.
NO it is NOT legal. They can ask your immigration status and work availability, and ask you about any skills you may have that pertain to the job you're applying for. It is against the law to ask about family status, religion, sexual orientation, ethnicity etc.
If it's not it should be! Would you want to risk the huge fine of hiring an illegal? Why wouldn't you be responsible for ID everyone else is and for the non discriminatory laws that are in effect, they will get points from the gov. if you're considered a minority. So relax you have to have a SS# to work legally in this country or I'm really P*ssed as I've had to prove who I am all of my life.
