Why hasn't the country of Mexico progressed in their history instead of struggled?

The Mexican economy is on the way up now, but still low by our standards. If some of these illegal aliens were smart they'd realize that Baja Sur has the highest per capita income in all of Mexico, AND has full employment because of the huge boom in the tourist industry. There aren't enough workers to fill all the jobs so employers have to import their employees from the mainland for everything from constructions workers to professionals. Lots of people work two jobs...and they're making good money!
It's because they listened to the last thing Jesus Christ told them before he died: "Don't do anything till I get back"
they probably dont have all the resources they need.or they are lazy and are looking for the "easy" way out.this is a good question.

The main reason is agriculture...Mexico, unlike the U.S. and Canada is more mountainous and lacks rivers. As a result there is much less fertile land available. Colonialism, overpopulation and pollution are other factors.
They are a corrupt country and the rich don't want to help the poor .
Corruption and colonialism have greatly affected Mexico, and there is another great factor that I won't mention since I don't feel like arguing right now. Mexico is not as poor as you may think, its GDP per capita is similar to that of Russia. Let me leave you with the following link:

What has held Mexico back is that it has used the USA as a pressure release valve. They send millions of people illegally into their neighbor country because you don't fear the angry man, you fear the hungry man. People that would have helped to turn Mexico around our now here illegally. That is yet another reason why the border needs to be closed. As long as the pressure release valve is here they will never change.

yeah there are really poor people and also grand luxury resorts, do you think that the owners of that resorts are poor too? with a salary of 12000 USD per month Calderon earns more money than Bush and its for a lifetime.
There are VERY rich people in Mexico, but its unfair for many of their citizens, and the economy it's on the top 10 in the world but the citizens don't see those benefits.
Televisa, Femsa, Corona, Grupo Salinas, Carso, etc are HUGE companies, Carso even as big as Microsoft.
US wasn't too different before the WW, the government its failing over ad over again altough the new president i think have started to do something to fix that first of all he have declared war against the drugdealers and Mexican cartels, many milicians and public servers have been killed, but this it's not going to stop until Cartels dessapear.
well for the things i know is the government is corrupted like everyone knows the people who are in the government only work for themselves only the things they benefit them not the people and about you see people doing they own justice because police wont pay attention to them now they have drug problem with the drug dealers the president is trying to get rid of them all but is hard because they have other drug dealers from other places of the world the Mexican government is not poor is cuz the government are just getting money for them and don't give it to poor people who are dieing in the streets you see thousands of kids living alone and no one does something to help them maybe with the new president he will try to bring Mexico up and try to get more jobs and all of the problems they have in Mexico
Poor is everywhere, look in your area i bet there are poor people somewhere. mexico has progressed its just the corupt gov that keep the darker skinned people below then and treat them like crap. thats why you see the poorest,uneducated and darker skinned people of mexico down here..they have no where to run.. mexico doesnt want them and the u.s doesnt want them
