I've worked in the ER too.
They go there for the same reasons a lot of the middle class and poor alike go there - because they will not turn you away if you can't pay, or don't have insurance.
Most will not ever pay the bill either, so it's basically free care to them. That's exactly why that bag of LR was 500 dollars, they have to recover that loss by charging more.

Because by US law, they have to be treated without question and regardless of thier ability to pay.
While we do not have a blanket universal healthcare program, this does cover everyone regardless of economic sataus legal status or national origin.
P.S. This is why mroe and more hospitals are eliminating ther ER departments. If you don't have an ER then you do NOT have to treat people for free! Many hospitals in big cities have a huge economic loss because of this law as well.

Possibly it's because the vast majority of them do not have insurance and cannot afford to go to a private clinic nor are eligible to use publicly-funded clinics.

Or lack of care it's funny because most people just get a prescription and are sent on their way in Mexico they can purchase RX antibiotics over the counter, here you need a prescription. So in a way we create the problem. Who ever said that the cost are so high to recover the losses thats a bunch of hog wash they want the costs so they can received additional federal and state funding. because they know they will never have to pay the bill. What the USA should start doing in hospitals is when a patient goes to the hospital and has no ID or SS # and they look like they could be illegal (you don't have to be Mexican to be illegal, there are many other illegal races), then the hospital should call the border patrol. That would really help get illegals out of here and out of our hospitals.
Jesus...yes only "illegal Mexicans" run to the ER. In your ER experience have "illegal Hondurans, Chinese, Guatamalans, etc" also showed up or was it just limited to the "illegal Mexicans". My final answer.the ER is there for emergency purposes WHO chooses to use it is that particular persons business NOT OURS.

Your just asking a racist question. People run to the ER if they believe their health is in danger. They also go to the ER because they do not have enough funds to pay for a private doctor. They ER sees you no matter what your economical status is. Ilegal Mexicans are not the only people who run to the ER. Stick with the facts and get your souces straight. You would run to the ER if you believe your health is in danger too.

It is known that most illegals are Mexican...so that is NOT racist, referring to group when there is a KNOWN problem or burden is also NOT racist.
They go there because they do not have to pay for there bill. Now, on the other hand, imagine if a legal middle class citizen had a period of being uninsured and had an unlucky day and ended up in the hospital. With no insurance, the hospital I stick to Urgent Care centers now because it is cheaper, but there begininning to make people pay their co-payment up front now.
By law hospitals only have to stablize people, then they can do whatever they want.
They can't charge an illegal. The government prevents the hospitals from turning them away.
Ear infection, go to a clinic, get a prescription.
