Ok, Another Immigration Question?

Shouldn't every American want people to be here legally? I would think someone moves into your neighborhood wouldn't you feel better knowing that person was there legally? I haven't paid much attention to the Immigration issues, so I was wondering what the fuss was about. I heard people comparing it to the Civil Rights era, but that maybe overstating it a bit, because I haven't seen any 'Illegal Immigrates Only' signs.

Answer:
These people are confused. People do not want immigrants to live here illegally, but they also do not want to legalize those who are here undocumented. I agree with you. It's better to know who's here. It's better that people can have proper documents, drive with insurance, etc.

The US is a nation of immigrants and that we all have immigrants in our personal histories (even Native American's ancestors migrated here). Yes, this is relevant because it is part of human history and human nature. It's happened as long as we've existed, and it will continue. It's more complicated now because of borders, but humans will always have reasons to move around the globe. What makes the poor who are starving in Mexico and the rest of Latin America any different that the Irish who came during the potato famin? People come fleeing persecution, they come as victims in the modern day slave trade (hundreds of thousands each year are a part of the modern day slave trade -- see my sources below). They come because they cannot actually feed their kids in their countries no matter how hard they work, the opportunities simply do not exist.

The drive for SURVIVAL is stronger than anything else.
You would think that everyone would want only legal immigrants but it is not true. Some people like the cheap labor. Other people think we should just let anyone come in unchecked. This is not about civil rights. It is about our country. Quite frankly, i think the democrats are trying to build up illegals. Hillary suggested we let them vote.
You have led a very sheltered life. I hope that you do not have to learn the hard way, as most of us have had to learn.
There is no comparison between the two, the blacks were oppressed for centuries but were still here legally and deserved and still do deserve equal rights. I don't see how someone that breaks are laws to get here can be compared with that.
That's part of the problem... there are some (I'm not saying all) that don't want to assimilate and be a part of the American culture. They'd rather wave their own countries' flags and spit on the U.S., but want the freedoms & privileges we have. Its not the legal immigrants - they do things the right way, and I'm greatful for every single one that comes here by the law, and joins our culture.
They don't want to be American.Period.
Correct.
mexicans comparing their illegal activities to our Civil Rights era is extremely offensive and should not be tolerated. they are cowards for doing so.
