Canadians moving to America?

I am planning on moving to the U.S. within (my boyfriend lives there) the next year and am looking for people in similar situations and what their tips and experiences were...I was born in Canada and have an Honours BA from Toronto...what is the best way to come to the u.s. on a permenant basis..any suggestions/stories would help

Answer:
hi. i married a canadian and moved north. it is far far easier to come this way for jobs. the us will more readily accept your degree to from canada. not so the other way around.

a friend of mine has family that went to canada from china then to the usa. they complain about medical bills but they seem to like it. my moms dr is from canada they like it here too.
get married, get green card, live happily ever after.

Good luck with all three.
Come to the US with your passport, and visit the Canadian consulate in New York. There should be one in Buffalo. Or, visit your embassy in toronto before coming here. You will need to obtain a work visa. If you decide you like it here, become a citizen. Support the government, pay taxes and make your life here. But you didn't say where your boyfriend lives, so it would be hard to tell you if it was good or bad. Good luck and welcome.
Basically as Myself we American Citizens...we don't see the Canadians as foreigners...We just feel that a Canadian Citizen is another American Citizen visiting from another State.- Now about Jobs ... all....depends where you will moove...a honored BA is not much...I sugest when you come to USA to continue your education in the field you choose go ahead and earn a higher College Degree. You are young...sky will be the limit. Now if you marry., your boyfriend and if he is An American Citizen ..it will be a lot easier to become a permenant Usa Resident...but for the Canadian Citizens...the USA Immigration Dept...has a lot legal exceptions for the Canadian citizens.. we try to make it easy for the CANADIAN CITIZENS to enter and stay in USA.Check with USA Emnassy in Toronto before you get a Visa...Use to be with your Canadian driving licence and your birth certificate you could cross the border to USA... and stay on way or another in USA. But From February 1st - new 911 rule- you will need also a Valid Canadian Passport too. to gain entrance in USA..I do n't think you will need any kind of Visa to cross and visit the USA...but still play it safe check with the USA Embassy in TORONTO.- Good luck and have a safe trip coming and staying in USA...
