How far should we tolerate other culture and religion?

The above link is about Female circumcision being performed in England. England is banning it. It's done for religious and cultural belief. I know its an extreme situation. Where do you draw the line?

I see your point, but if it benefits a person would it not also benefit the community for is not a community made up of people and rules created by the people? If it benefits a person it means the person is more aware of Who They Are and Who They Want to Be, thus easily eliminating rules that hinder the progress of that person. Therefore, if the people living in the community are more aware on Who They Are and Who They Want to Be as a person or community, they would be able govern themselves with rules that circulate in helping one another, not rules benefiting, making a profit, or hurting one person. Thus, the community will look at itself as a whole. And observe and critically analyze what rules to be implemented to serve the whole.
well dude everyone one has a different culture. if you grow up with a culture like dat then it would be really hard to try to for get it. i eman you should just care about your culture and dont give a shoot about anyone else's unles you got family that is part of another culture

I agree, all immigrants NEED to assimilate and learn English and embrace this country.But many immigrants will continue also hold there culture dear to them.Their children will more likely because "fully" American, but it takes a generation or two.

I agree with u on immigrants should assimilate to their new home. They can practise their own cultures and religions, but they should not try to reinforce others to agree and join with them.
A crime is a crime according to law of the Land. It is not about tolerating religion and culture.Law of the land is also universal
For example, a Muslim in India can have 4 wives because law allows it. Here, in US, it will be polygamy- punishable under the law.
In other words, law of the US controls and applies to people who come here.

You can never rightly judge another person's path, or even another culture. You do not have to adopt another person's or culture's ways unless you freely choose to do so. But, all paths are valid, and you must only concern yourself with your own! *sm*
I draw the line at mutilation and causing harm to anyone for certain. If someone wants to maintain those sort of practices, then they should not come to a nation where those practices are abhorred.
England has maintained a tradition of school uniforms for centuries, and while I was visiting England I read where the courts were exempting children for non-traditional religious garb such as headdresses. I thought that if someone chose to live there, they should have to comply with the traditional uniform. They've never made exceptions for British children.
Also in the UK, a Pakistani (if I remember correctly) had his daughter murdered in an "honor" killing because she refused an arranged marriage.
Those type of practices should not be condoned or permitted in any enlightened society. They shouldn't be condoned in the nations were those traditions arose, in my opinion, however that is not my place to decide.
If one chooses to live in a new nation, one should embrace the ideals and traditions of that new nation and follow it's laws and mores.
Rocco, pedophilia is not a tradition...IT IS AN ABHORRENT CRIME. Child pornography is a CRIME. Sexual offenses are CRIMES. Statistics show over 1 million sex crimes are committed by illegal aliens in the US and many are repeat offenders who violated deportation and returned.
Tossing balls to your kids in the backyard is a tradition for many Americans. Raising them safely to be moral adults is our cultural goal.

You tolerate other cultures or religions completely unless they jeopardize your life. Religious freedom is what we are about. I don't however want to be preached to or bothered in any way by anyone else's beliefs as I'll not burden you with mine.
