Immigration Help?
Answer:
I am for it. I hate it when people can't speak english and try to facilitate a business transaction. I am all for preservation of culture and heritage, but when it comes to conducting business, immigrants need to demonstrate they are trying to learn the language.
English should be the official language but there's nothing wrong with spanish. I think we would all benefit from learning another language. And I also agree with you when you say latinos should not be bullied
I don't think it should be the "official language". This country is made up of different cultures and therefore many languages will be spoken.
I do agree though that immigrants MUST learn English. It would benefit them greatly if they could speak english as well as several other languages.
What would that law prove?
People will speak the language they were born to speak.
Do they think people will forget their language and learn English overnight?
I agree to an extent that it would prove to benefit someone if they at least learn enough english to speak at banks, shopping, DMV, etc, but I also realize how difficult the English language can be to learn.
You should think of it as a benefit to them. Not to consider it as being pushed around, but wouldn't it be nice if they could speak at least a little english?
I know alot of people who came from another country to reside here in the USA and they all learned English. Not b/c they felt they were forced to but b/c it would make life easier here. I even know some in their 50's who took adult education classes to learn English and it may not be perfect English but they learned enough to speak for themselves in public.
I'd look at it as a benefit to learn the English language and not a detriment. It would help them in the long run.
Are you saying it's not the official language yet? That's weird. I mean Americans speak English. What does this mean? That you have government documents written in a few different languages?
We have two official languages... which just means one side of your cereal box is English, and one is French, and only a few people in Ontario ever read the French side. (Canada)
It comes in handy just like troops learning Arabic,Chinese, etc
Statements are sentences, but not all sentences are statements. Such as the stuff that is stated here.
I'm for it. If you were to move to another country, would you really expect them to learn your language to understand you. If you move to another country and expect to reap all of the benefits, you have to be able to read and write the language of the country you moved to. No one told you to forget your native tongue. If you had any sense, knowing a second language would help you achieve the American dream sooner than you thought. Hundreds of companies are looking for bi-lingual people. Think about it that way.
i'm against it. this nation is a nation of immigrants from the entire world and not a nation of brits.
english is the common language and should not be the OFFICIAL language.
Let's create a happy medium.
All US citizens will be required to learn a new language every 2 years.
All Mexican immigrants will have to learn all Cuban dialects while all Cubans will have to learn Russian. The Germans will be required to learn Swahili and the Africans will be required to learn Redneck.
And everyone everywhere from coast to coast will be required to know Ebonics and Icelandic as basics.
The only ones who won't have to learn any languages would have to either be struck by lightning or win the lottery, so they can become rich and hire a Wall Street firm to defend their nasty ways.
