Spanish television stations.Preventing English Language.?
Answer:
Of course he is correct on this. They have absolutely no incentive to learn English. What do people from other countries do? I haven't seen any Russian or German TV or radio stations or newspapers. They learn English and get good jobs. Their kids learn English and are successfull in school. It's just sad that Bush and the idiot senators pushing the amnesty bill refuse to see the big picture.
I agree. What's the use in trying to get people to learn English, when their entertainment is in Spanish, almost everything is in English and Spanish too. It's ridiculous!
Por que si. Por que no. Por que pig.
I agree, I never see any channels on tv that are in Japanese, French, German, or Chinese. I think if you do stuff like that, you should make it fair for everyone. It's very contradictory how it works.
One suggestion is to make Spanish TV/radio a pay-per-service (either cable or satellite) ONLY option. The companies like Telemundo should see it as a huge financial opportunity, since those people who refuse to learn English would have to come up with the bucks to pay for it. Of course, then all the other stations would have to play English-only programming... not sure how viable that is, but as a former English as a Second Language teacher, immersion is really the best way to acquire language skills.
It's a matter of choice, just because there's tons of cartoon channels on TV doesn't mean I HAVE to watch cartoons. I'm hispanic, born outside the US but I NEVER watch Spanish TV. I have nothing against it, they have some pretty educating, interesting shows, but I simply choose to not watch. it The last time I watch Spanish TV was more than 8 years ago. It is my choice. The wonderful thing about this country is the freedom, the freedom to choose what you want. Having Spanish tv shows does not prevent anyone from learning English. It is up to the individual how they choose to use their spare time. Having spanish TV hasn't stopped me from becoming a very successful, educated human being.
im russian and last time i know there was never a russian channel or station..but anyways yea it's people's choice to watch whatever they want but they should try to learn english..
Every other immigrant group has learned English,I know many people from easten Europe.People in Europe are even learning English! What is wrong,is it too hard to learn or are they trying to turn our country into Mexico?
People have the freedom to watch what they please. Eliminting the spanish networks is not going to "MAKE" them (spanish speakers) Learn English. People have the option to choose to learn English or not and many of them CHOOSE not to learn and thats sad and all, but it's the reality.I really dont think it was fair for the Stupid Gov. to say that. There are chinese and arabic channels as well, BUt he didn't mention that did he? He singled out the Hispanics. FU** Arnold! HE NEEDS TO LEARN ENGLISH HIMSELF!!!
i always felt if you go to someones home you should respect their house and customs. but yay for thousands for parasites coming from anywhere on the globe wiping their feet on our flag and expecting us to bend to their will solely because they are too lazy to adapt to a new environment. maybe we should go to another country floating on a door and hold our hands out say gimme and never learn more than enough to say in their language "can you get me to someone who speaks English" i hear can i speak to someone who speaks Spanish a million times a day and each time it annoys me more and more.
First of all, over 1/2 of Spanish language speakers who watch Spanish language TV are bilingual, not Spanish dominate. We watch Spanish language programming not because of language necessarily (I was born and raised here and I watch it) but because it is culturally relevant. When I watch NBC Nightly news it doesn't cover the same stories as they do on Telemundo or Univision (How often does general market TV talk about the Venezuelan or Cuban government? Rarely unless it has to do with the U.S.)
As far as "preventing" Spanish language TV, Your Governor is pandering to you. TV is not free unless your talking PBS.
All Television networks sell commercials that pay for programming. Advertisers buy time on Spanish language stations because they have data that tells them that these particular viewers, at these particular times, are their target audience (we may not speak the language but we spend our money. U.S. Hispanics have more buying power than the country of Spain)
I respect your desire to lessen the language barrier, and I agree that Hispanics should do more to try and learn the language, but your Governor is implying that the only "incentive" Hispanics would have to learn English is TV. (That's pretty insulting)
No i don't think it is a good point !!! WHO is he to say what is a good point! He doesn't speak good English ether !
He should learn to speak good English just like people want Mexicans to lean English !!
at least those CHinese or Italian immigrants will learn a new langauge.
you make it sound as if all immigrants speak spanish
the governor forgets that he used spanish during his re election to get the vote of hispanics..but now that he is re elected he comes out with this childish comments.california was spanish for over 300 years..so hispanics have all the right to speak spanish.. adios!
