How do I go about marrying my Swedish boyfriend so he can become a U.S. Citizen?
Answer:
2 ways:
1. File fiance petition, get it approved, have him come here, marry within 90 days, and file relative visa petition and adjustment of status. he will get green card and 3 years later he can file for citizenship.
2. Marry now and file relative visa petition and follow one of the two:
a. File fiance petition, have him come here and file for green card.
b. Wait for consular processing, let him get green card in Sweden.
Other option is that he can travel here on VW program being Sweden citizen, marry and then file for relative visa petition and adjustment of status.
my cousin had a similar situation except he married an american girl and wanted to come from australia to seattle to live. they ran into so much red tape they said forget it and she moved to aus bottom line it is not easy be prepared for the unexpected and maybe start learning swedish
You definitely need to talk to an immigration lawyer. There is a visa (I think it's the K visa) for fiances of American citizens, and one normally can get a green card after getting married to a U.S. citizen. A number of years after getting a green card and living in the States, one can usually apply for citizenship.
Talk to a local immigration attorney right away, because the wait times for these things can sometimes be very long.
For further information, I would go to the Department of Homeland Security website: http://www.dhs.gov/ximgtn/
go in Swedish and get married,go to embassy and prepare paper
