How can we help people that speak Spanish learn English, and people that speak English, learn Spanish?
Answer:
We should not have to learn to speak Spanish. Those who do not speak English need to learn it or get the h*ll out.
We, as a nation, have no interest in doing this..
Bilingual education.
Open minds!
As long as I live in the USA, I shouldn't and will not speak any other language than English
why the hell, i need to learn Spanish I'm not the one moving to the majority speaking English country and refuse to learn the Language!!!
ESL ?
require it in school, just like reading or math
Just don't use my tax dollars is all I ask.
Why do Americans need to learn to speak Spanish
Are we going to illegally jump the border and go after our olds jobs down there?
No doubt, bilingual education, i guess, its the best way to get it.
Lets waste more tax dollars on schooling illegal alien children. Over 2 million of them are in school in California. I must work overtime to pay my taxes to suppoprt them.
Why should I learn Spanish? I have no desire to visit Mexico or Spain. Why not throw in French, German, or Russian for that matter. What about Arab while we are at it? Why just Spanish. That is very narrow thinking don't you agree?
This is the United States, we speak English.
No need to learn Spanish or any others.
If you don't speak English, learn, or too bad for you.
No other country in the world caters to people like we do. If you dint' know the language too bad.
Not much we can do if they are not WILLING to learn!
If I were to move to a Latin American country, I would learn Spanish. Otherwise, I don't NEED to learn Spanish, or any other language.
We have immigrants from dozens of countries into the U.S. THEY assimilate into our culture, not vice versa.
For immigrants here in the U. S. A., they should have to learn english, but for those of us born here in the U. S. A., why should we have to learn spanish. Now lets say that I chose to move to Mexico, yes I feel I should have to learn spanosh.
i have no interest to learn another language, i live in America, they come here they can learn English. they knew what they was getting into when they came here. they don't need to come here trying to change are ways and laws.
In my opinion, being in an English speaking country, Why the hell should I learn spanish? It really annoys me that I have to "press 1 for english" or listen to walmart's loudspeaker commercials in spanish. If I go to Spain, Mexico, France or wherever I don't expect them to learn English just to accommodate my laziness, most would tell you to go f*** yourself anyways. But of course, for political correctness we're not allowed to do that here. Let's not let USA become another Mexico, we speak English, learn it or get the F*** out!!
I don't WANT to learn spanish!!! I live in AMERICA, an WE speak ENGLISH here!!
well... if you know both, become a teacher.
But my guess is that you can only help to learn those who wish to learn... And whoever wishes to learn, there are schools, private teachers, and the most fun of all: a girlfriend (or boyfriend) that speaks the other language and not yours... You'll always learn that way, ;)
It depends on their age, their available time and interests. In general (as a Spanish speaker mother of bilingual children) I think the best way are to expose them to the language they wan to learn, by direct conversations, movies (close captioning/subtitles helps a lot), readings (newspaper, story telling, etc depending on the case) and also taking courses.
As an adult, what has worked best for me is taking grammar and pronunciation courses, and for my children, playing with English speaker children (I talk to them in Spanish all the time at home, but when I see they need a translation, I explain it to them).
I'm doing this because I have found that there are more career opportunities, and also it's an advantage if you like to travel abroad. I wish we could learn another language, too, like French or German.
if people are going to live in America they need to learn English,it isn't helping them by making it easier for them by making things in their language and giving them no reason to learn English,as for English speaking Spanish,i dont feel the need unless i am going to a Spanish speaking country
It is not "our" (as a nation) function to help people learn other languages, except as a part of a job, such as government translators working in the State Department for instance. If people want to learn any other language, let them take the perogative and learn it. Learning English in the US is easy, millions of legal immigrants did just that, all you have to do is apply yourself. Bilingual education is one of the biggest failures of government schools (and they have had so many). All it does is prolong the time it takes to learn the host language and assimilate into the culture.
No need to teach those who speak English, Spanish, as long as they are living here, they should be required, and in fact, it should be mandated, that they learn to speak English. It's way past time that we take our country back. If you come into my place of business, you better ask me what you want in English because none of my employee's speak Spanish and I don't plan for them to learn.
PS. When I was stationed on Embassy Duty in Japan, guess what??? I had to learn to speak Japanese. So there you are.
Deport anyone who refuses to learn it and speak it, and/or make their life extremely difficult. We should make it our official "official" language.
we don't. people learn because the want or because they see a need for it. people in this country are not interested in learning anyother language because they think they are above everuone. they think they do not need to know anything about anyother counntry because we are number one, and everybody else is below them. they go to europe or any other country and they act superior, they disrespect the locals, and abuse their codes of behavior because they r americans and THEY have rights. i have seen it in italy, spain, latin america, the caribbean. they do not respect those people.
and people who speak spanish in this country, they try , they work hard long hours and they go to school to learn not only english but civic, the law, government, all they can. it is not true they only speak spanish. of course, among each other they would, like the italian, the german, the indus the chinese, and all the others do. but in situations where they need to speak english, they try... oh yes, they try. somepeople can't learn .they do not have a basic education foundation...so it is not so easy as to say how can we teach the spanish peole english and viceversa
In order to learn people have to WANT to learn. I do not think it's important to distinguish either English or Spanish. Foreign Language absolutely should be part of education, it helps to teach us about no only their language but their values, morals, and cultural differences. However, it should be a choice of what language to take. If your question is regarding the United States, I believe English is and should be the national language. Part of the reason that it is hard for Mexican Americans to integrate themselves into American Society is because of the language barrier (and the long periods of time, generations, that it takes for Mexican Americans to learn and use the English language, especially as compared with immigrants of other nationalities) I mean should we also have Chinese, Japanese, German, and Russian as a national language? We already have Spanish and English versions of DMV forms, all major companies have phone options for either English or Spanish. We have immigrants from hundreds of different countries that have hundreds of different languages. So tell me why is Spanish so special?
Curious, You talking about "americans" that live in this country... Why in the hell would we want to learn to speak spanish..... As for all the illegals, they SHOULDN'T even be here... something about the word illegal, says it all. Those that are here legally, they should HAVE to learn english..... I went into Wal-Mart awhile back and happened to ask a Wal-Mart employee where I could locate a certain item and they couldn't speak english, they had to go and get someone else to answer my question.... Then I asked the first employee " in spanish", how long had she been here in the US and she told me....10 years... Sorry... That's total BS.... But, hey, I can hear now what some of you are saying....... So, when can I come by and steal a few things from your house.... Oh, that's illegal ??? when does it apply...only when you think it should .... or better yet.... let's move down to Mexico, and by god... where ever we move, those people better learn how to speak english.....
Give it up man. It's not gonna happen.
The first step is to have a desire to learn. From my experience seeing the illegal aliens, they are sadly lacking this desire! They just DEMAND that we learn Spanish.
Personally I have no great desire to learn Spanish, out of protest to the attitude of these individuals. They have no right to demand anything and since they are here they MUST learn English.
I know all the Spanish I need to know:
Enchilada
Taco
Burrito
Quesadilla
Taco Bell
