Does anyone fear living in America (US) where Spanish is the dominant language?

Are there even any other multi cultural successful countries like America/US? I can't think of any right now. Even with all the negativity sometimes in America, I would rather be miserable in America than be miserable anywhere else. How do we promote English as the official language of America?

Answer:
You know, this is these UNITED STATES of AMERICA...Not EUROPEAN, Not SWITZERLAND...THE USA. We speak ENGLISH here...PERIOD. If we didn't then our laws wouldn't be in English.

I would really like to know how many of you actually have been over to Europe to find out what they speak there. My guess is not many (if ANY) and most of you are speaking out of your @$$ when you say that you have. Why do you think that Europe is having an identity crisis? Because there is no national unity...it is now EUROPE...like the kind of EUROPEAN UNION. You want to be part of that? Then fine move there, but this is the USA where the Constitution was written in, YOU GUESSED IT, ENGLISH!
We stop forcing our kids to learn Spanish, and start kicking the illegals out.
NO, i do not fear living here in America.
how do we promote english? speak it.
no
You can't make English an "official" language; only a national language.there is a difference.

In a democratic country with a diverse population speaking many languages, English can't be "official" anything.
huh? No, actually, Spanish is not dominant. I think you have been mis-informed. English is still dominant.
Hon, Spanish is NOT the dominant language.
ENGLISH is the DOMINANT language.
Remove the easy access translations from English.
Require English for any official interview or documentation.
Do not allow the other languages in any open market place. In your home do what you will.
Don't be silly Spanish was here before English, and don't worry English will be global in the future.
I don't fear it - I'm actually learning it now. But it's only becoming dominant because we let. Everything is bilingual because we accomadate the people who don't learn English way too much.

Edit: How could anyone even bring Canada up as an example in this argument? Read up on Canadian history and you'll see what kinds of problem bilingualism caused them in the past.
I fear that the US will be split into two far different sections like Canada, and English speaking East and Mid-west, and a Spanish speaking West and Southwest. It is happening, and the Democrats in Congress seem to be pushing hard to accelerate it by pushing the Shamnesty bill in the Senate.

There are many towns and cities where Spanish is spoken more often than English. We can stop this from happening by electing a Repub president and Congress. If the Dems gain power, they will give amnesty to all the illegals in our country.

Excellent question. We need to establish English as the official language of the U.S.A. My grandparents came to this country and learned English. I can't speak a word of their language. We have a lot of elected officials who consider it "racist" to want English as the official language. We need to pay attention to who these politicians are and vote their worthless butts out of office.
Vote for a Democrat
Fear?? Why would you fear it? After all, monolingualism is a curable disease. And would you consider bilingual, multicultural Canada to be a successful country? Or Switzerland? Spain? Etc., etc.
english is the official language of america. but america is made up of many diverse cultures, and many citizens are immigrants, too old to ever master a new language. and many people in america are not citizens, rather here for a short while; they didn't come for the language.

most countries have an official language. but that doen't mean all other languages are illegal.

one of the cutest thjings i've ever seen was this tiny little Thai girl, tour guide in bangkok, barking out fluent german at her clients. so funny. maybe you should take a class, learn spanish. it's fairly easy. much easier, in fact, than english. and learning foriegn languages is fun.

however, a good place to start promoting english could be right here on this site. language and grammar are atrocious on Y!A.
We force our "leaders" to deal with the perforated borders problem before English speaking citizens become a minority. Now that China is becoming cozy with Mexico I expect that we will have 40 or 50 million Chinese crossing into the country in the next year or so. Of course they won't be looking for work, they will be quietly taking over because were to stupid to understand what a border is for and to politically correct to object when they start reforming our country.
Spanish is NOT the dominant language in the U.S.! English is STILL the most used language here! And, THAT will never change!
When the President starts his state of the union speech with, "Mi Amigo Americano's", then i will be worried.

Let me answer this in another way.

Here is a well known joke outside the USA.

What do you call a person who speaks two languages? Bi-Lingual. A person who speaks three languages? Tri-Lingual. A person who speaks 4 or more languages is Multi-Lingual.

What do you call a person who speaks one language? An American.

In Europe everyone speaks 3 or more languages. And it is truly a non issue as the second generation of Spanish speakers almost all speak English better than the Spanish and have adjusted. The whole issue of language is silly...the Spanish speakers just like the Japanese, Farsi and German and Italian speakers assimilate.

This issue is a waste of the ability for the Politico's to actually get important things done like fixing health care and illegal immigration...it is smoke and mirrors.

Best Regards.
We promote English by speaking it and refusing to give in to the haters of American unity by learning or rather using other languages in our country. I think it's good to be bilingual but Spanish just doesn't interest me.
I'm not really concerned about it. How many people in the rest of the world are monolingual, in Switzerland 4 languages are spoken. Most people in Europe speak several languages.
Why the hell would I, or anyone else, think that the Spanish language is something to "fear"? Seriously, "your kind" crack me up with this. And English is the unofficial official language of the US. I think it's fine the way it is.
Why is the spanish language something to be fearful about? Brazil has two languages, portugese and spanish. Portugal also the same. Don't learn spanish then. Some employers would like to hire people that are bilingual.
Why would i fear such thing? Wat about France, I've heard they got alot of immigrants there too. Besides english IS the official language of america
All the Italian, German and Polish immigrants a 100 years ago didn't speak English either. I think in early 20th century NYC you would have encountered even more non-English speakers than nowadays. Perhaps many immigrant Latin-Americans will never learn perfect English but I am sure their offspring will, and undoubtedly they will give to the US actors, writers, politicians and musicians of renown just like every other ethnicity has.

Besides, if the European Union can work and progress with over 30 languages spoken I am sure an extra language will not harm the USA.

And if that does not convince you, do not worry, there are far more Chinese learning English as a second language right now than all the Elementary, High School and College students in the US put together.
No fear nothing.
Press 2 for Spanish and demand to speak to someone in English. For those that think that English is not being threaten as our language, just come to Miami, and see how not being able to speak Spanish effects your life
I truly believe multi cultural divides the country into sections, this creates a hardship when things go wrong, say like a serious accident no one can speak the language this becomes every second counts, a patient can enter a hospital with a language barrier they cannot explain I cannot take this med or that med, it becomes wait till someone translate..It seems having English as the official language of America may hurt someones feelings so we continue to spend billions so no one has their feeling hurt
Not at all
