That system would have given those people access to more things you have to pay taxes on also. Legal non citizens use services that you have to pay taxes on to a greater degree than illegals do. And the cost is greater than the amount of taxes that are paid by them now.
It would have made things more expensive for you not cheaper.
I don't even use your dang hospital services.
I'd like to agree with you Nicole, but i can't...if illegals broke the law to get here what makes you think they'll respect it enough to pay taxes?
i live on the border (Rio grande valley) Nicole...most of these people don't want to come to America to be citizens...they want jobs and they send most of the money that they make home, with plans to return there and live
Right now the tax base is dependent on illegals who pay in and don't receive the benefits in the long range such as Social Security.With the government proliferation of our Social Security funds we need these extra taxes to keep the system afloat.Plain and simple.
So we can't enforce our immigration laws because there are citizens who abuse our system?

And the taxes that the illegals pay are a drop in the bucket of the social systems that they use.
Regardless, the bill was defeted, we are going to enforce our laws (hopefully) so the question is dead.
It's impossible for a person to live off the system. Laws have been changed for a while now and people can't collect welfare for more than 5 years,also during this time,they have to be seeking employment and the amount of cash they recieve is not near enough to pay rent or anything.
I would much rather give my tax dollars to the legal citizen.

in Texas, several Hospitals closed because the tax base was unable to cover the losses of treating the illegals.
I would rather pay taxes for citizens that don't work or "work the system" because they are here legally! There should be stricter laws and penalties for those who abuse the system.
Don't you know we are also paying extra taxes for the corporations and businesses that hire illegals. They are paying them under the table, which means they are not reporting the taxes either that they would have had to pay for additional employees.
The illegals are not the only ones that should be blamed. The businesses hiring them and the government letting everything go for so long are the ones at fault. The illegals keep coming here because they know they can.
