There were alot of immigrants coming to America from 1820 to 1910, boat loads of them. Many died along the way. The majority of immigrants came from Ireland and Scotland during the Potatoe Famin 1820 to 1880. Severe droughts followed by long cold spells and English persecution forced many to leave. The advertisements at that time that were sent to Europe were "United States to give sections of midwest and western lands to first to stake claims and areas." Germans, Norweigen, and Polish people started coming after 1845 before the civil war was at it's height of political debate. From 1845 the above people were less but the irish were still coming followed with the Intalians. It was a gradual influx up until 1885 when the worst of the industrial revolution came. We were the first country to have the mass production factories. But as wages and immigration collided was when one group would work for one wage another group would work for less and so on and so on. The Germans were the first to take the industrial jobs then the Polish which would work for less then the I talians and then the Irish. Child labor was not uncommon and many children from the lowest paid employees died from malnutrition over worked and poor living conditions.
