The cost of becoming a citizen,is it too much?

The Bush administration Wednesday proposed raising immigration fees by an average of 66 percent, saying U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, the agency that processes applications, needs more money to do its job. Because Congress doesn't fund the agency directly, fees cover almost all its nearly $2 billion annual budget.

"The new fees reflect the growing costs of keeping our national immigration service secure and efficient," agency Director Emilio Gonzalez said Officials say the fees would let themprocess applications 20 percent faster by the end of 2009. The agency has suffered from long backlogs for years. The average waiting time now is about six months, though some applicants can wait much longer for citizenship or green cards, which confer permanent legal residence.

Answer:
The increased fees are a result of NOT hiring cheap labor to do an important job.
I do not believe that a dollar amount can be placed upon the freedoms that a citizen of this great nation enjoys.
Many Illegals are willing to risk their lives, so what is the problem with a higher fee.
It seems that they have their priorities skewed.
I dont know of anyone ever dying while filing paperwork, yet many die each day while illegally crossing the borders.
What price, freedom?
Those people are stupid. If money is the issue, then they have proven to be capitalistic failures and should go home. It's the wait time that affects the most people.
