What would happen if Mexico were to become the 51st State ?

Wouldn't that solve the illegal immigration problem from the Southern Border OR did the illegal & immoral covert operations of the CIA in Cuba and other Central & South American countries eliminate any chance of friendly relations with our southern neighbors?

How would Mexico's statehood effect the 12 million illegal immigrants?

Answer:
And what about all the South American countries? Didn't think of that did ya??
Never happen, this question makes you about one step away from, "but you aint got no legs Lt. Dan"
It won't be. That doesn't make sense.
You're way off the map. Puerto Rico is the one under that category, and they aren't immigrants. Puerto Ricans already are born USA citizens
It's an interesting question. I don't see it happening. You might want to ask if Mexico is still touchy about us annexing parts of their country to include it in ours.
It would be horrible. Think of what happened when West Germany took back East Germany. The West Germans were stuck with a bunch of poor people that they had to bring up to standard. East Germany was also polluted, and an environmental nightmare. Just think of how bad Mexico would be. Then instead of having 10 million illegals on medicaid and food stamps, we would have 100 million Mexican state residents on, because they would be so poor. Ouch!
Not all of those 12 million illegals are Mexican. I figure the Mexican "state" govt would be the first to start screaming to deport the remaining illegals..after all, Mexico is expert at deporting illegal aliens from their country. Zero tolerance there. Their southern border is secured.
I have often wondered what the Mexican government would do if the United States provided a comic book-style pamphlet to Americans who wanted to illegally immigrate to Mexico, showing details such as how to prepare, when to break through the border, and such. To add insult to injury, then the United States could force its consulates in Mexico to provide assistance to illegal American immigrants.

I'll bet Mexico would call it an "invasion," and they'd shoot.
Its in the realm of Darkness, never to see the light of Day.
You know that Mexico is not a state, it's a country . which would ultimately mean that if "Mexico" were to be integrated as part of the USA you would have 31 new states ....
To answer your question though, that's a terrible idea! I'm very sure most of the people down there would never accept it. Especially all the rich people .. if you know how Mexico's system works, you would understand why. (rich get richer and poor get poorer every day)

unitedstatesoffatso . How do you know what the guide says anyway. I've seen you write that you "REFUSE TO LEARN THEIR LANGUAGE" ... so how can you know the content of the pamphlet?

It's amazing how many people are so arrogant to call Mexicans "irresponsible" .. just goes to show you their level of education.
We would be overburdened with irresponsible citizens, have to learn Spanish because they won't learn English, attempt to educate them, pardon 12 million criminals who are here illegally, put the whole country on the minimum wage, supply them all with Social Security benefits even though they haven't paid into the system, supply them with health care, etc., and worst of all increase the registration in the democrat party to an unbeatable margin. Making them the 51st state would not alter the illegal actions of those who have overstayed their visas, or entered the US illegally. Some people just don't understand that these people are law breakers, and simply do not have the rights of citizenship in the US. The one thing we would gain is access to their resources such as oil and minerals which the Mexican government has not developed provided our environmentalist wackos would let us. Can you imagine the outrage if we should build a refinery down there or develope the offshore oil. You have got to be kidding.
Who says those Mexicans will allow the annexation of their whole country? This question is bull. They complain about how America in the past took California from them. What makes you think that they will freely give it away.
Pardon me for being avant-garde, but I believe joining Mexico would more than measure out...GIVEN THAT THEY ACTUALLY WANTED TO BECOME PART OF THE US.
Given the amount of immigration, though, TO AN EXTENT IT'S ALREADY HAPPENING.

As an MBA I realize the net economic implications of "illegal immigration" and world trade.

The fact is Mexicans coming in does more to make goods cheaper (IE cheap labor) then it does to make jobs harder to come by or wages fall for American citizens. In addition cheap labor allows some businesses that would have gone bankrupt get cheap enough labor to stay in business and provide more managerial and skilled jobs for citizens managing Mexicans.
So in short, quality of life improves for everyone: the immigrants get better jobs and original Americans get more efficient resources.

Secondly, far as the CIA in Cuba, I think the booming of the economic system would easily provide more than enough tax revenue to help the American CIA (central/internal intelligence /defense agency) find out what secrets the Cuban FIA (foreign intelligence agency that tries to crack down on other countries' secrets) is cooking up and crack down on them.

For comic relief watch the film "A day without a Mexican" and you'll get the idea: ironically we should be VERY thankful for Mexican immigrants. We just have to be careful they are allowed to govern themselves to a large extent and have a certain degree of lenience on laws they obey outside the immediate original 50 states, even if they are the "51st state".

Anyone who knows anything serious about economics can figure out...the MEXICANS MAKE US RICH, NOT POOR.
First, we abolish every current and future social program. On second thought, no. We shouldn't make the American people suffer without the programs. Let mexico keep their poverty.
The U.S. almost did after the Mexican American War. Democrat politicians from New England (who didn’t had a clue about Mexican demographics and culture) wanted to annex all of Mexico after they kick General Santa Ana’s butt. However, South Carolina Senator John C. Calhoun discouraged the US military and government from annexing all of Mexico for racial reasons. He was a southern Democrat politician who was a hardcore racist/white supremacist of his time. He only wanted former Mexican territories where European American and European Mexicans had settled (Texas and California). He did not want to take all of Mexico because of racial reasons since Mexico is still mostly 90% Native Mexican AmerIndians who were westernized by Spanish Jesuit and Fransiscan priests during Spanish colonial times. Mexicans are not real “Hispanics” or real “Latinos”. This is what real Spanish look like:

This is what Senator John C. Calhoun said to Congress on annexing all of Mexico.

“We have never dreamt of incorporating into our Union any but the Caucasian race—the free white race. To incorporate Mexico, would be the very first instance of the kind of incorporating an Indian race; for more than half of the Mexicans are Indians, and the other is composed chiefly of mixed tribes. I protest against such a union as that! Ours, sir, is the Government of a white race. The greatest misfortunes of Spanish America are to be traced to the fatal error of placing these colored races on an equality with the white race. That error destroyed the social arrangement which formed the basis of society.” - John C. Calhoun

And that's why the US never annexed all of Mexico.
ft has it right.
we might as well call it a state. Most of the people are drawing american benefits. And we could use the excuse of "it's all about the oil" that way nobody would notice
No, it would further ruin our schools and services by letting ALL who want to come in. The point is impacts, and that would increase the bad ones. That is why no one wants 'SPP' or the fabled North American Union.

Fix THIS country and let Mexico fix itself.

AFTER you have addressed our issues, we might help Mexico as a neighbor, but the idea that their systems deserve our money before our own ones, impacted severely by illegal immigration, do, is one of the big reasons people here are so furious at the Senate Immigration bill.
I though puerto rico was to be the 51st? We could annex Mexico as number 52 but no more dilly dallying. Enough of this mess already.
Why would Mexico want to become the 51st state when in the near future the U.S. will become a Mexican Territory? Every ten or fifteen years, we grant citizenship to any illegal alien living here, they as new citizens exert their influence to bring in more. This cycle will perpetuate itself until there will be fewer legal citizens here than illegal aliens. Why would they wish to be part of our country when eventually we will be part of theirs?
It would have to be the 52nd State. The UK is the 51st state LOL.
M S You are an MBA and can't spell? Wait a minute here...

you think we are gonna believe that is like this guy thinking he can get us thinking this would be a good idea...
