We need to address the economic conditions in Latin America. People would not want to come here if they could make a decent living at home. Pressure these governments to improve economic conditions through attacking corruption and creating a better business environment.

Here's a good one, hire illegals to be border guards and pay them regular pay with benefits. Then tell them for every Mexican that crosses the border, the Mexican that made it takes the job of the one on guard duty and the ex guard is deported. Job security at its best. Who knows better how to cross the border than the ones that are doing it. ;-)
Increase the quotas of legal immigrants from countries whose citizens have played by the rules, and leave the quotas of legal immigrants from countries whose citizens have not played by the rules unchanged or lower them.
In time, illegal immigrants will be squeezed out of jobs by legal immigrants and the illegal immigrants will then begin to drift back to their homelands.

The borders have to be secured, and also the ports, because without that there will be a continual flood of people.
If the flood of illegals can be stopped, then it may be more economical not to be trying to track down the ones that got in before the door closed.
One of the things Congress is considering is to require everyone in the USA to carry a "right to work card" ... if you don't have it, you cannot get a job in the USA.
Problem is with messed up data bases. Social Security Administration says 4-5% of the people in the data bases will be wrongly labeled as illegals when they are really Americans ... you do the math ... 150 million workers ... that means 7.5 million will be falsely labeled as bad aliens. Now from what I have seen of GAO reports on SSA, I think 4-5% is much lower estimate thatn reality.
So if there was to be mass deportation
along with whatever number of illegals did not have fake ids, there would be several million citizens deported, who did nothing wrong, because the government records on them had lots of errors

Spazz...your recommendations are pretty decent. But I'm sorry, I have to go with deportation. If you came in illegally, you should go. THere shouldn't be any "never minds", or "do overs".
We should a) secure the borders; b) deport all illegals that are caught; c) enforce our laws and d) take punitive action against employers who do not follow our labor laws.
Because we're already doing that, it just isn't very well enforced. Maybe we should make it a requirement to make them learn our language before they come here...oh, wait, we already do that too. What needs to happen is a zero tolerance policy, and no more talk of trying to give illegals the rights of American citizens.
I dont think its fair to make them pay a large fine, i have friends who's families are illegal immigrants and they work really hard to make money with crappy jobs and making them pay a fine would be cruel and just greedy. Such a capitalist thing to do. Just deporting is fair enough and if they want to come back int he country come back legally.

The government should negotiate with the other countries leaders to try to control the immigrants coming from there. Help them with money because most of them because of poverty.
We shouldnt treat the immigrants wrong, they are abused here, they dont show it on the American news but i've seen it on the spanish news how illegal immigrants have peaceful and fair protesting and cops come and hit them and abuse them. Have a little respect.
We need to finish building the fence and bulk up our border patrols,we need to punish the job owners for hiring them and have them pay a steep fine and if its their second offense jail time.We need to change the law that if they have a child in this country they are legal. Deport all illegals out of the country and make it tougher from them to come into the country.If they really want to be here make them fight through all the paperwork like others have done.I would have more respect for them if they actually tried to legally go about coming to this country.

I have not problem with anyone being here, if they have legal documentation, drivers license, pay taxes, have car insurance, don't go on welfare, and live and act like the rest of us Americans who work our fingers to the bone to make ends meet.
I don't know that we can do anything to keep them out, they keep on coming - so why not make it difficult for them to get work through stricter hiring laws, as well as proof of drivers license, car insurance etc.
Doesn't anyone know the definition of ILLEGAL anymore? There is only 1 solution. Send them all back home. I don't mind them being here, but they need to come in legally just like everyone else. What makes them so special that they can break the law & not only get away with, but get rewarded?
Just keep an eye on all borders and check all incoming people and check the point or place where people can enter into a country.
