Every american should read this Teddy Roosevelt speech 1907?
In the 1st place we should just insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an american and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else. For it is an outrage to discriminate against any man because of creed, or birthplace or origin. But this is predicated upon the persons becoming in every facet an american and nothing but an american... There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an american but something else also, is not an american at all, We have room for but one flag, The American Flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is the english language... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyaty to the american people.
I personally LOVE this speech, it seems such good common sense. Agree?
Answer:
What a great speech but not too different than what we've been saying here for months. The problem is the lobbyists and the special interest groups. By the way, I thought the ACLU stood for American civil liberties union. If that is the case they should be disbanded for representing illegal aliens. They are not American citizens. Common sense is considered racist by the liberals.
Put a link to it if you can. I would really be interested in reading it verbatim. Thanks.
I agree, common sense is nowadays seen as cold and heartless.
I wish there was someway for someone of importance to read and comprehend this. Wouldn't it be great if Michael Moore made a documentary on this subject. He got so many peoples attention of importance with his other films. Good luck passing the work around.
Awesome , I love it
then why do we have supposedly Afro-Americans
Teddy Roosevelt rocked.
Here's one link to the speech:

Thank you. It sure shows how far removed we are from the Country that was once so great!
U.S. citizens, and their values have been overtaken by professional politicians and liberals who seem to hate everything that American once stood for.
This is not even a question. This is given and basic rule.
I just don't know about the English language part. I am highly educated- however there are others who are not- and for them it is practically impossible to learn as fast or be comfortable using it so much. Despite their best intentions they can not learn and adopt the language so well. And that is why they remain "limited" in what they do.
It is not even a question of English language with immigrants. Lot of big countries have different dialect and even languages in their own countries like India, China, Russia, etc. People from those countries speak their own languages and dialects.
So, in this issue, we need to show little patience and understanding.
Knowledge of English language is not a requirement for being an immigrant. It is for becoming citizen.
I think your question or comment primarily lies to assimilating in the US society and culture dictating one's loyality. I whole-heartedly agree with it. If you come here, be part of the society and culture and language plays a big role because it dictates the most important part of human relationship-Communication.
Where can one find Teddy Roosevelt speech?
We need to charge San Juan Hill again. However it might be Capitol Hill instead.
Hell yea !
BULLY!!
Yes, it makes perfectly good sense.
In 1915 yet another statement is almost prophetic of today, although he was referring to LEGAL immigrants and not the illegals of today. Still his words are applicable.
The man who calls himself an American citizen and who yet shows by his actions that he is primarily the citizen of a foreign land, plays a thoroughly mischievous part in the life of our body politic. He has no place here; and the sooner he returns to the land to which he feels his real heart-allegiance, the better it will be for every good America.
In this next sentence I think La Raza would be the current equivalent of the embassies of which he speaks.
We cannot afford to leave American mines, munitions plants, and general resources in the hands of alien workmen, alien to America and even likely to be made hostile to America by machinations such as have recently been provided in the case of the two foreign embassies in Washington.

It's Common Sense - unfortunately, we have veered a long way from common sense in this country since those days.
We no longer are unified in our thinking - pretty much a divided country. You know what they say about a Divided Country.
he didn't want Native Americans to vote neither.or blacks he wasn't the most noble man I wouldn't use him as a quote
Wow, just think if Teddy was president now?
Former President Teddy Roosevelt was correct. He is re-enforcing what Lincoln said during the Civil War: "A house divided can not stand". When I seen illegal immigrants on T.V. staging national protests and waving their native country flags, they didn’t appear to me to be grateful people who truly wanted to become American citizens and assimilate into American culture. I suggest that Americans heed Roosevelt’s words lest we will soon have our own “Quebec” and become Balkanized. This is why we need to maintain a common heritage.
I don't see any problem with an American also supporting another country if they think that country is also good. It's only a problem if that country and America are in conflict.
And I don't necessarily object to immigrants speaking other languages, but I do think that they should learn English so they can speak both their first language and English, whenever the situation calls for it.
I wish we had another president like "Teddy." My grandfather served with Mr. Roosevelt in the Spanish-American war. He was a true leader...
