Also, we have an aging population. I think we should put the emphasis on children who are doing well at school and would get the necessary education here.

First of all, what's your question?
Second, no one cares, it's Canada.
maybe before they are allowed in ,they should show or prove they have job to work here.
Hey Ricky V, you've asked a very complex question. One that is debated often but also one where there is probably no real solution, except to cut off all immigration to Canada. But that is not a great idea because of a point you yourself mentioned, the ageing population. We need those immigrants to keep up our population base so there will be enough tax dollars to pay for the upkeep of our ageing population. Also, should people be denied the right to live in a great country like Canada, simply because they had the misfortune of being born elsewhere. Most immigrant are very hard working, take pride in their new country and pay their fair share. The problem of new Canadians not being able to work in their trained or chosen field is also a great problem. Especially in the medical field, where there is a huge shortage of doctors and other medical professions. Something must be done to assist trained doctors from other country, whose training is not recognized in Canada, to bring them up to acceptable Canadian standards. Perhaps an intern or residency program. I also agree that our government should provide more scholarship and apprenticeship programs to help natural born Canadian who don't have the financial means.
Yes. For immigrants who've passed the education criteria, there should be some sort of equivalency program to re-train them and keep them updated with current professional practice trends in Canada. This is crucial, especially in the Medical and Technical fields.
