Solution to illegal immigration problem?

Here is a simple solution. Every illegal who is in the country right now would be granted citizenship based on 2 criteria.
They must speak FLUENT ENGLISH; and,
They must volunteer for a tour of duty in any of the armed forces.

This will demonstrate their commitment to becoming part of this nation and that they are not just leeches who want to make money and send it back to where their hearts truly are.

Very good proposal but this would never go good with the left. But I do second that. The only thing is that i doubt that most middle age mexican americans or any other race are capable of being totaly fluent so late in life. I guess it depends on what you define as fluent.
You just want us all to die! I won't do it
We dont have to serve why should they?
No go based on the fact that you want to grant citizenship for the illegals.
no, the solution is to severely fine anyone -- from corporations to private home owners -- who hires illegal immigrants.
I like this resolution as AZ. & California are haveing the same problem. BUT even the legal alians still leave their hearts back home and their loylties remain there. Here in Arizona it is demostrated frequently. What makes things worse is our goverment enables this to happen and yes I am from immigent family who had to fight their way here and die just like the others in this country did.
I agree whole heartedly. It's nice to know someone else thinks the same as I do.
It just fascinates me how so many people have strong opinions about immigration laws, but they really don't have a CLUE about what they're talking about.

Number one. When a is a lawful immigrant, this does NOT mean they have been granted citizenship. Permanent residency is NOT the same as citizenship. You can, if you qualify, become a citizen at some point after you have been a permanent resident.

Number two. In order to become a citizen, among the list of requirements IS that you speak and write in English. You have to pass a test in English about US government. Let me tell you, the people who pass that exam know more about US government than the average native US citizen.

Number three. If an immigrant (EVEN an ILLEGAL ONE) serves in the military during a time of war (like right now), they can apply for citizenship.

You proposed things that are already required and can already happen. Why are you wasting your time? Instead of posting idiotic questions, take a little time to read the Immigrantion and Nationality Act (INA). You can also take some time to read over Section 8 of the Code of Federal Regulations. Section 245 of the INA deals with the rules to becoming a permanent resident. Section 310 covers naturalization (that is when you apply to become a citizen).

There is an exception to the English proficiency requirement for people who are older and have lived in the US a long time. Other than that, the requirement is very much enforced. How many people have you known who have applied for citizenship. None, right? That's what I thought.

My voting ballots are in English only.
