I believe in enforcing border security and immigration laws?

I do not believe the current bill for immigration reform should not pass for it rewards those who broke the laws in coming here. However, I was wondering what difficulties and obstacles people face when trying to become legal US citizens? What must be done to make the process smoother and more efficient? What (in dealing with immigration.) parts of the current process make it impractical or does not make sense? What can we do to screen out the trouble makers (criminals and terrorists.) while being able to let those who want a new and better life, pursue the American Dream through hard work in?

Answer:
The problems with the current legal immigration system aren't a result of inefficiencies. The problem is that it doesn't allow enough people to immigrate legally. We have about 10 million jobs for which we need immigrants, and we have 10 million plus people who want to come to the US, so you'd think that would work out perfectly. But the immigration laws only let a tiny percentage of that many people come through legally each year.
In full support of everything you are doing:
1. Pass a nonsense law to protect corporate concerns.
2. Build a 25' wall around America
3. Let Bush fill it full of water

Its funny and insightful, if you don't get it =P
Hmmm. We could enforce the laws we already have. Think that might work?
It failed and hopefully this bad bill is gone for good. Enforcement of current laws and providing border security already authorized, WOW! what a novel idea? The problem with immigration laws is that they favor certain countries arbitrarily over others. I do think that our closest neighbors from Mexico and Canada should be given preference over all other countries. I think family and having a job to support yourself is important but I don't think my great uncle and third cousin twice removed should be given preference. I also don't think we should necessarily give the PHD holder making a six figure salary an advantage over the journeyman carpenter. You not only keep the blue collar wages down by hiring an immigrant but the white collar jobs as well. Some things need to be reformed. No welfare, health care, public schools or social security benefits to illegals. Felony charges for knowingly hiring them. No more anchor babies, a child born to an illegal alien is NOT a citizen. No guest workers until all those that broke the law are sent home.
