I'm from east Los Angeles, should I call myself Mexican american?
Answer:
YES YOU ARE EITHER MEXICAN OR AMERICAN NO COMBINATION. SAVE THE INVASION CRAP FOR SOMEONE WHO CARES CAUSE THAT'S OLD @$$ NEWS. WE FOUGHT YOU LOST HISTORY WILL REPEAT IT'S SELF ONCE AGAIN.GOD BLESS AMERICA
Were you born in america? Then you are "american"
What do you think u are?
If you were born here, you are an American of Mexican descent.
Can you hook me up with some tacos? I'm heading to Tito's for lunch. Damn! i'm hungry.
That's up to you.
I'm from farther south, and I'm not Mexican-American... but hey, it's your choice.
Last one out bring the flag
I take it this means you came to L.A. illegally.. hopping borders, running through deserts, and avoiding the Border Patrol to make your way in to the U.S. NO - you are Mexican, only Mexican - go home and work for your tortillas.
I'm a native american (Indian), but that was I long time ago. I just stick w/ white or indian. It doesn't really matter. Say whatever makes you feel at home, if America is your home.
Where did your ancestors originate? If they were from Mexico than you are Mexican-American. If they came from Peru than you are Peruvian American. If they came from Africa you are African American, and if they came from a bunch of different places you are American. I really don't like the something or other American title we attach to ourselves and others. If you are born in the United States or are a naturalized citizen your are an American period. If you were not born here than you are from wherever it is until that changes by becoming naturalized. For example if you were born in Canada than you are Canadian unless you become a naturalized U.S. citizen than you should be called American not Canadian-American but simply American.
My husband is a Mexican from Mexico and he would call you a Chicano
I would guess that if you were born in America and you are of Mexician descent then yes it would be correct to say you are Mexicain American. The parrallel you live at doesn't really matter.
You can call yourself whatever you want, who cares?
That would make you over 100 years old ? I can't believe you are that old
You are an American if you were born here.
I hate this XXX American crap. Should I be calling myself a Canadian English American? That sounds really dumb but it's accurate.
Can't we all just be Americans - those that are here legally.
if you want to, your choice.
you are american with blood tights to mexicans mexico american is OK if you are from a mexican family
Then I am Mayan!
what would be the difference.......native american........african-americ... has a nice ring to it ........oh_hell
1. No. If you are a citizen, you are an American. We don't differentiate.
2. Wrong. Whites were here first. The Mongols invaded before the Spanish.

were you born in america? if not not, you should be calling yourself illegal most likely.
Be whatever you want, just make sure you are
LEGAL.Hmmm the US beat the Mexican army all the way back to Mexico city where they surrendered. But its the here and now not "the then and you wish".Its the United states of America, and it will stay that way .Trust me a few pandered too people will not change it.
It seems you have already chosen the side of
being a hyphenated American.Although my ancestors were German,I am an American and very proud of that.
If you were born in America you are an American. Besides, the land belonged to American Indians. Would you like to be called an Indian?!. When are we going to just call ourselves Americans?.
And how did Mexico get it to begin with?
It is part of the US. However, living in east LA doesn't make you necessarily Hispanic, nor necessarily give you any right to call yourself 'American'. If you are an American, and have Mexican heritage, call yourself what you like.
I just call myself 'American' however, unhyphenated.
Born in East L.A.,...... I was born in East L.A.....( I love that song)
If it was still "old Mexico" when you were born then you are just Mexican. If it was already East L.A. when you were born then you are an American with Mexican lineage, hence you are Chicano.
It doesn't matter that the soil you were born on use to be Mexico, that doesn't make you just Mexican. I was born in Chicago. The land on which I was born originally belonged to the U.S. Native Americans, does that make me a tribal member, I don't think so.
Do I respect the people who originated on the land I was born on, Yes I do.
