I hope that I understand your question and the law well enough to help.
1. You have been in the USA legally for some time but you are leaving to study abroad for 2 years.
2. You intend to become a citizen and a permanent resident of the USA.
If the above is the case, then I suggest that somehow you arrange to come back into the United States for 30 days near the end of the 1st year abroad. Maintain an address in the United States -- the same one you have now would be best -- throughout the entire two years. When you return at the end of the 2 years you should be two years closer to your citizenship. Be sure to maintain your visa and discuss this with an immigration officer. Good luck. my daughter is australian but is in usa married she is a usa citzen now she has been there 5 years i think you have to be in usa she had to pay money and apply
