I think its wonderful and worldly when people speak more than one language. Your xenophobia only demonstrates your ability to limit yourself in a global market. As capitalism spreads throughout the world, the smart ones will adapt to take advantage of emerging markets by understanding different cultures.
That's why Chinese Kids are learning English to better sell you their wears. That's why in your own country "Made in the USA" will be gone off the Wal Mart Shelf. Because your ability not to adapt to a global market economy.

We shouldn't have to press 1 for English. Everyone should just speak English. If they don't then they should learn. They are in the United States of America, we speak English here.

Yes, I think the ppl of the United States should speak English, but I don't think they should be made too. It should be up to them. Just like myself learning another language should be up too me! No one should be forced to do anything they don't want too. Now, having said that...they will not get far in this country if they choose not to learn english.
However, when it gets to the point when nearly everything that I see or hear consistently "caters" to spanish speaking ppl in an English speaking nation.I think we are doing more harm than good. We are basically telling them that you do not need to speak English to become a member of our communities. We will accommodate you.
The only reason this happens is because there are just so many of them. I wouldn't doubt that it would not be the same for any other ethnic group that has such a large population. Business does not care what language you speak they only see green...as long as there is a market for them they will "cater" too them.
We are indeed a nation of immigrants. So I think it should be up to the city that you live in on whether the schools, public facilities, and other tax payed operations should accommodate those that do not speak english.
Plus a good number of these immigrants are not becoming official citizens which basically throws out the whole naturalization process.

I don't think corporations, government agencies, or any organization in the states should pander to Spanish speaking legals or illegals. This is America and we speak English, we should not have to make accommodations for people who don't speak the language. The first step should be to have all documents across the board in English only. If anyone wants to apply for ANYTHING, from credit cards to public assistance, drivers licenses to collage applications, if they can't fill it out in English, they don't qualify. It's simple really, if you want to be here badly enough you will assimilate to our way of doing things, not the other way around.
