Many of us are not now, nor have we ever been opposed to legal human immigration. The line is drawn at illegal and we are vehemently opposed to all illegal immigration, including that which gave illegals amnesty in1986 simply because the laws were not enforced. We are doing plenty. We're just not as noisy as the law-breakers because we don't have the protections of sanctuary and the government through lack of law enforcement. Because the government doesn't protect its legal citizens, we have to find other ways to get our laws enforced and our voices heard -- legal ways but ways that are not always the best ways.
The US gov. actually does. It sets a quota for each country, and people wishing to immigrate legally must show real cause and benefit to this country. Many have to wait years. This is why so many are opposed to the illegal immigration. Why should people from a certain country get to come with no paper and no cause / benefit that other people in the world have to wait for?
