Please does anyone anything about immigration's test to live in uk?

my husband is from jamaica he cannot read or write very well as he is dyslexic. we have just heard about the test he has to sit when his visa expires. i have found out about a course run by colleges around the country called esol level 3 with citizenship. i have enquired about this and have been informed it is only open to people from non english speaking countries. i don't know what we will do as i am severly disabled and my husband is my carer.

Answer:
The gist of it is,you turn up ,one of your compatriots hired by the home office turns up as your interpreter. You discuss with your interpreter how the corridors of the DSS are paved with gold. You laugh ,light up a full tar marlboro and the interpreter ticks all the right boxes. The immigration officer present ,carefully selected for this duty by the home office turns a blind eye to the extraordinary proceedings ,slams down his approval stamp and takes home his pay.
you can check out the home office website. they are the immigration department for the UK and their website is:

http://www.homeoffice.gov.uk/
Just reapply for the visa until he is a naturalized citizen.
What I do know is that it is NOT EASY - I presume in the case of your husband being dyslexic it will be taken into account. As far as I can gather the written test will try to prove your husband has a really good knowledge about the UK - all I can say is good luck
My girlfriend (from Poland) is on the ESOL course right now and I'm pretty sure it is open to ALL non-UK citizens.

The one stumbling block could be the cost, as I think only students from EU member countries get the course for free. Pardon the pun but that will become academic very soon, as I believe from level 2 or 3 upwards everyone will have to pay soon.

Forgive me for not knowing too much about immigration, my girlfriend can stay indefinitely being from an EU member country, so it's not an issue in terms of her staying here (se lives permanently with me here in the UK) but I would have thought as the gentleman in question is your husband he would have the right to stay in the UK permanently now? The only thing he may not have is what's known as "recourse to public fund", i.e. he wouldn't be able to claim Jobseekers Allowance etc, but that is usually got around after a certain time period.

I think a lot of the staff who run ESOL are themselves not native English speakers and all the ones I have met (in Newcastle at least) are lovely lovely people so get yourself down to your local college with your husband on whatever day/night they run the ESOL course and ask to have a chat, they'll be sure to help.

Good luck and best wishes.
i am english but i cant help you sorry
You need to get your husband assessed by the dyslexia institute I feel sure your doctor will be able to help point you in the right direction.

You say your husband is from Jamaica, did he come into the country on an entry clearance visa? This is valid for 2 years. Just before his visa expires he should be able to apply for his residency visa (like my husband did, he is from Texas). But make sure you have evidence that you have lived together for two years. Also if you are severely disabled you must have a social worker, get them on your side too and get them to write you a letter to the Home Office explaining your disability and how he is your full time carer. If I can be of any further help to you (I too am disabled) please talk to me. Okay?
The test is quite simple, it is a multiple choice test and he'd have to pay £34 to take it. In exceptional circumstances you can ask the Home Office to be exempt (on the actual form itself SET (M)) but they are very strict with exemptions and ALWAYS require a medical report to this effect. In case he cannot sit the test and won't be exempt then he would have to apply for an extension of his current (I presume 2 years' visa) until he passes the test. Unfortunately the whole process changed in April and it is a big muddle at the moment.
Perhaps you should both go back to Jamaica and remain there. That way your community can look after both your needs and your husband's.
it costs around £80 for each attempt and you only get 3 attempts,if you fail you get deported the questions are very hard, they ask questions relating to UK in the 1930s upwards.
