What is your idea of a compromise solution to the illegal alien problem?
The extreme conservative viewpoint is to enforce our immigration laws, secure our border with Mexico, and to deport all illegal aliens. They believe that all illegal aliens are criminals and that the illegals should be put in a line for citizenship behind those immigrants who applied legally for citizenship. They would rather have no bill passed, than what they consider to be the fraudulent Senate amnesty bill.
Answer:
I'm is to control our borders and ports first, and start enforcement of our immigration laws. And then only after this is done, take a good look at our immigration laws. Yes coming here legally does need to be made easyer, but not to easy. We still need a good backround check, and a good health workup.
Here is a novel idea...
How about we enforce the laws that we already have?
WOW...amazing huh!
Why is following the immigration laws or enforcing them an extreme viewpoint? I don't understand? if that is the case than I am an extreme conservative.
I agree with the above post, we already have a set of laws not being enforced. Why not try to enforce those? It is a waste of money to pass a new set of laws that will not be followed by illegal immigrants and will not be enforced by companies, politicians. Border guards have their hands tied, they try too hard and you have a situation like Ramos and Campeon, who are currently spending 20+ years in prison for trying to do their jobs and protect the citizens from a known drug lord... We have legal means to become a citizen, use them..
well, the conservative viewpoint seems sort of mean and racist. sometimes moving to the US is really their last chance to survive. even if they're just getting blue collar jobs -- that's enough for them. it's mean to generalize that all of them are criminals. just mean.
but i agree. stick to the law right now. if they wanna stay, i guess they should become american citizens and be legal.
Call me conservative on this issue.
How is this a bad thing?
"The extreme conservative viewpoint is to enforce our immigration laws, secure our border with Mexico, and to deport all illegal aliens. They believe that all illegal aliens are criminals and that the illegals should be put in a line for citizenship behind those immigrants who applied legally for citizenship."
Gee... wanting to enforce laws that are already on the books. Ones that were already approved by congress... Wow, that's really extreme!
Illegal aliens BROKE US LAW to come here and are being treated better than LEGAL immigrants and our own poor citizens...
There should be NO compromise. We first need to secure our borders--primarily our border with Mexico, but that's only because that is where the vast majority of immigrants come through. Then we need to give illegal aliens a choice: leave and re-apply for your visa from your home country or be deported.
Actually, I do offer one compromise: I'm willing to offer all illegal aliens who willingly leave the chance to come back as legal immigrants... (That's MY idea of amnesty!) But if we have to deport them, they should be banned for life.
Prosecute businesses who knowingly hire illegal aliens. Require businesses to check Social Security numbers, driver's licences and other forms of identification provided to ensure that the employee or candidate IS the person whom they say they are and turn over to authorities those people who have used fake identification. Provide a deadline and a pathway to citizenship for illegal aliens who are already here if they're willing to pay $5000 and return to their country of origin while their paperwork is being processed. After the deadline is passed, any illegal alien found will be deported to their country of origin. Any return to the U.S. will be subject to imprisonment and then deportation after their sentence is complete. Build a wall with motion sensors and video cameras along the Mexican borders of the 4 affected States, California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas and staff with enough Border Patrol Agents to hinder or prevent future illegal immigration. Use money from the collection of $5000 fees to help fund this activity. Improve our Immigration Policy to make it easier to provide work visas and a pathway to U.S. Citizenship. Amend our Constitution to not allow automatic U.S. Citizenship to any child who just happens to be born on U.S. soil if their parents are here illegally, simply vacationing or on work visas. I don't know of many other countries that allow this. Try going to France, England, Germany or even Mexico, drop a kid and see if they automatically provide citizenship to the child in those countries. They'll think you're crazy.
Z man you almost quoted the bill except for a few minor differences did you know that?
This country is like my home. If you (or anyone) broke into it there would be no compromise. You would either leave before I caught you or be dead when I caught you. It isn't a matter of would I allow you to stay and be part of the family. On the other hand, if you knocked on my door I would willingly allow you to come inside and if you needed to, you could even stay until you got on your feet and got your own home. Illegals should have knocked.
well, suppose you were walking down the street, and a stranger came up to you and demanded all the money in your wallet, which was $200
what would an 'acceptable compromise' be to you?
(be reasonable, dont take an 'extreme position')
your supposition is called 'falacy of the Mean', where one always assumes that the middle ground is correct. Sometimes, it isnt

THIS is an extreme? Demanding that the law should be kept should pretty damn well be considered the moderate, mainline, common-sense position to hold.
Why are so many these days questioning whether we should keep the .law or not? Is it really that hard to understand?
I'm neither "republican, democrat, liberal, conservative". I am just a person that looks through the lines not between them.
First, the immigration laws in this country haven't been updated in over 50yrs - just after WW2. The only things that have been revised is the fees.
For those of you that have never visited another country here are some facts about trying to apply for visas, greencards, ect. You need to visit one of our Embassy's in another country. There are numerous cases where people have applied and paid a local official in the applications offices ( usually someone of that country's origin not American) to just apply. Even the lawyers in these areas are just as bad. Then they tell them that if you will pay a service fee each month that they will help to expedite the process (which they are not in a position to do so) but the people do not know this. Many of those who have tried for more than 5 years do not have more than a 6th grade education. Some towns where some of the immigrants are from do not even have schools.
Now, since we all know it is a money racket and the fees have already been increased effective July 1st, 2007, you will have a lot more people trying to sneak in.
Our best chance is to secure all borders not just Mexico but especially Canada. Also add an of shore inspection harbor 20 miles away from any harbor or coast line checking all ships coming into harbors and ports and coasts for any reason.
Many of the illegal immigrants in our country have applied more than once, paid the fees, hired lawyers, waited more than 5 yrs to hear something, had all the papers, had the med checks, background checks, ect ect, and were still denied. There was a man in New York that came over on a visa in the early 70's to make money for his family. He had applied for a continued visa or greencard and was denied but still worked and paid taxes and even got visa and greencards for his wife and kids to come but when he went to reapply he was denied. He kept doing what he has always done - redenied - redenied - redenied. He approximated nearly $50,000 was paid to immigration and lawyers over the years. In 1998 he had applied for citizenship, took the classes, paid his fees again, all the same proof took the tests and finally got his citizenship! His family became citizens back in the early 1980's before he was ok'd! He was finally given citizenship in 2001 and now he is retired and very sick.
Do you see where I am going on this issue. Thousands have done the same thing and do right but are denied. It took this man over 30ys and $50,000 to get what he wanted and needed. And yet he still paid his own bills, paid taxes, and worked and supported a family. No extras - no welfare - what we call the American way. We need immigration reform - not higher fees and new laws. The old ones weren't working what makes us think the new ones will?
Borders sealed! Criteria should be 5yrs paid taxes, clean criminal check, constant work history, no high debts (other than housing and a vehicle loan) and clean health check, no fines just the fees and greencard with chance to apply for citizen in 5yrs. Real hard to figure it out. Those that do not meet the criteria then use the new proposal on work visas 3yrs and return. I want the ones who pay their fair share. There are millions of Americans living on welfare and govt assistance and know how to work that system to their full advantage. I want the people who pull their weight here. And don't hand me that "the illegals are taking our jobs that is why their on welfare" - I live in a state that due to NAFTA Thousands lost their jobs because their jobs went to other countries because of the "Free trade Agreement". People that were second and third generation workers making $15 an hour prior to loosing their job. They are having to start all over because of it. Some are young enough to go back to school and learn a new trade but many were over 55 or even near retirement age and lost pentions and savings. Manufacturing job loss in our state was over 10,000 people in 2000, all in just one year! Each year after that has been about an average of 1,000 people since 2000. People are mad and they want to blame the newest scapegoat for what has happened to them. First it was Reganomics, then NAFTA, and now "illegal" or legal immigrants. Follow the minor criteria from above and simplify! Simplicity is so simple! GOD BLESS THE USA!
I personally really don't see any problem with immigrants. They do the jobs that the lazy Americans don't want to do. After all, our ancestors were immigrants too.
I could have said it any better or different although I don't consider it an extreme viewpoint
The thinking conservative viewpoint is to enforce our immigration laws, secure our border with Mexico, and to deport all illegal aliens. While I do know that by definition they are law breakers I don't think all are criminals.
I do feel this is bad for America and the American people, it sends a very strange message to the world. It says that all a group has to do is invade this nation and then demand rights from the government and you get what you want.. Its wrong and it must and will go down in defeat. It will not pass not as it stands. And we have plenty of able bodied Americans that can and will work any job for fair wages. Don't buy into the hype its simply a load of BS .
Enforce the laws we have.
