What were the "american dreams and hopes" of mexican immigrants first coming to america?
Answer:
Every person in this country, besides the Indians, comes from immigrant stock and all, Mexican or otherwise came for the same reason - to make a better life for their family. Mexicans were not facing religious persecution, as many early european immigrants were, but were facing, and still are, low income and standard of living in their home country, and America has always been known as a place where every person has an equal opportunity to see that their childrens lives and economic situation, are better than what they knew.
A line from a poem, “The New Colossus,” by the nineteenth-century American poet Emma Lazarus. “The New Colossus,” describing the Statue of Liberty, appears on a plaque at the base of the statue. It ends with the statue herself speaking:
Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed, to me:
I lift my lamp beside the golden door.
Are you talking about legal immigrants or illegals? There is a Major difference. The illegals, all they are concerned with is not getting caught.
I can not believe this is actually a school project. I am sorry you are stuck in a school that is brain washing its students to think that the American Dream for Mexican immigrants is dead.
The fact is that nothing has changed for legal immigrants from any country. What has died is the respect for the laws of this country.
Please update your question to show us at what age the Liberal education system is forcing this politically biased curriculum.
Remember that the first ones were brought in with the territory they lived on.
If you are talking about LEGAL immigrants, they want what all Americans want - take care of their family and have a good life.
If you are talking about the illegal alien criminal, don't get me started! Someone will call me racist, even though I'm not. I just want people to obey the law.
I think that for most immigrants the American dream is to "prosper." I'm referring to economically. Most contempary immigrants come for countries that offer very little (economic) future for those with little education and they have been told that they can earn a future in the US. Note that most, not all, current immigrants do not value eduaction. There in lies the root of the present immigration problem, they do not value education nor any other institutions that we Americans hold dear. The first immigrants, what we refer to as the original settlers looked for religious freedom. goals have changed.
