$5,000 and i want to leave the U.S. to go to the U.K. is it possible?

well i have $5,000 to my name. i'm 21 and want to travel! but i'm not looking for a vacation. i want to move to the U.K. permanently. can it be done with only $5,000?? if so what would i have to do. has anyone done this before? what type of expenses can i expect as far as...flight to get there. bus/train to get around in the UK. a place to stay. what about residency? and a work visa? how would i accomplish this task? i've never been out of the U.S. what are some cultural differences that i need to be aware of? anyone...HELP!!

Answer:
I personally don't recommend moving to another country if you haven't been there and think you need a bit more world experience before making such a desicion. 700 (or so) will disappear for flight fees. Then you'll need insurance. Plus the conversion from US dollar to pound will leave you at about 2.5 grand pounds. While the Brits do speak English you'll find their culture and weather a lot different from your own. Trains can get you pretty much anywhere (and you can get lost in the London Underground but it's easy enough to figure out).

My best advice is that you save a little more and then go backpacking around the UK and Europe. You'll love it and you'll come back a different and better person.
maybe but then youd have to ruff it for a while till you get income there
I dont think so unless you want to be a uk bum
isn't the euro worth more than the usd dolloar now a days

i seriously don't think you can do that unless you know people you can live with until you get a stable job
The UK will not let you live there if all you have is 5K. You need to have money (so as to not suck their social systems dry), or you need to have a well-paying job already lined up for you before you arrive.

Trust me, the UK sucks. You wouldn't want to live here.
you are going to need a lot more money than that u r talking about moving there. 5,000 thats just a vaction tou need like 10,000 at least .
damn, you'll have to find a job fast in the UK or get tapped out.
Get a marketable skill first
it could possibly be done
Sound doable to me. get the hell out. Get a flight and go, should be no problem, if you want to move there that bad it must be one h**l of a nice place. I am sure they will take care of you. GET, GO,NOW.
You really need to get sorted before you go. You'll need to make sure you can get a work permit and job(if you have no degree in a field they need, this wont be easy). The plane fair would be around $600-900 as you will need to have a return trip ticket unless you have papers for work verification and then you can travel one way. You may stay for 90 days if you have no work authorization but you must be able to support yourself. You can try to get someone to give you a work permit in that time but if you don't get it within the first month,it may take too long to process and your 90 days will be up. You can get around by bus fairly easy and cheaply but rent is expensive. I would try to better plan things and look more into the work aspect before you move, especially with only $5,000.
Good luck!
interesting. I would say read the newspapers on line.

check the going rates for "flats" which is their term for apartments.

also the want ad section.

you also need to check with their embassy (on line perhaps ) and learn their policy toward work permits for foreigners.

you might have a easier time of it because you are not immigrating from a third world country.

why do you wish to move to the UK?

how much do you know about it?
...don't get caught up with all this hype D...your still young and time is on ur side...wait and work and eventually you'll win.Don't lose ur faith just find ur trade and or education. Then decide...otherwise you will hav the same difficulty there...by the way...WELCOME.
You should go for a long visit and stay in youth hostels to save some money. Europe can be very expensive and hotels in England are high priced. My son had the same idea yea rs ago and went to Sweden. He came home after a month. It seems romantic but it is hard unless you know people over there that you can count on.You might be able to get a work visa before you go but I think it takes awhile to get.My sister moved to England in the 1970's and married an Englishman,it still took her 6 months for a work permit. If I were you I would just visit to see if it was all you believe it to be,you are young and if you really like it you can go back later and know what to expect. Good luck...
This site will tell you everything you need to know.

But be prepared your $5000 equates to approx £2,500 of our UK pounds.

Suggest you start saving and rethink when you plan to come here.
