Was the fiance visa the right way to go?

My fiance and I have tried to do everything the complete legal way, and even though he can visit the US and doesnt need a special visa, visa waiver program, we still have gone through the fiance visa process. but i keep hearing from people that are saying we should have just got married while he was here, he is back in Italy awaiting his interview...so can someone tell me why it was a good thing that we have gone through this process and not just gotten married with the visa waiver while he was here.what are the pro's of getting the fiance visa?

Yes, a fiance is much easier and faster way for you to go, don't worry about what others say as after you get his visa he will be able to come here and become a US Citizen and if he's just waiting for the interview your just weeks away. Best wishes to both on your new life together.
I've heard that as long as he comes legally when you get married, the marriage visa is a lot faster. However, I haven't been through it myself.
The thing is this.if he marries on you a visitors visa, USCIS will interpret that, as using that visa for what it wasnt intended for...using the K-1 visa is the best and quickest way to go...
I am British and got married in Houston Texas on a visitors visa. Mind you we were not planning on living there, we now both live in my home country England. There is nothing stopping you getting married on a visitors visa, but if he is planning to live in the USA with you he would need to return home after 90 days and apply through the normal channels on a spouse visa to live in the US. Marrying a US citizen gives you no more rights to live in the US anymore.
