When I was young, I learned in Elementary school about the Alamo, the Republic of Texas and the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. I asked my teacher, why America didn't go all the way and press on past the Rio Grand, after all, the northern half of the once large Mexico is now ours?
His deadpan answer was simple, "There is nothing worth taking south of the Rio Grand."
Maybe if America had, all Mexicans would be Americans right now and this question would be moot.
Look how well off, the caribbean island of Puerto Rico is compared to it's neighbor, Dominican Republic and Haiti

In me time in service the Army has always averaged around 35,000 non-citizens. Military service gets you citizenship faster. Are you currently serving?

yes,that could be one answer,but what about the illegals that have children ,small children and no fathers?can't put them in the military.illegal is illegal no matter how we look at it.and there are some who come here and do want to be citizens. they still fly their countries flag,not the flag of the u.s.a.,and they flount it.can't have it both ways.
or BarB... No, but having an Immediate family member do so (Father, Mother, son, daughter(for old people)) Should help. I think if they want Amnesty for breaking our laws to come here, its a good idea. Not to mention, its a good living, better than fruit picking!
i wouldn't want any illegal out there serving in the military.. we need people who care for the country to be defending the country. The illegals don't care about anything.. they enter illegally, don't pay taxes, live off our social programs, overcrowd every program we have, and don't want to learn english. So this would be a terrible idea...
I would agree that it's a good idea. However, if they can't follow a simple rule like.. hmmm crossing the border legally they will NOT listen to orders from military personnel. Deportation is the key.
