No, our job is not done, we need to pressure Bush to enforce our nation's immigration laws, complete building the border fence, and for the House to pass The Secure Borders FIRST Act of 2007, sponsored by Congressmen Peter King and Lamar Smith because the current status quo is unacceptable.
We need to regain control of our borders and ramp up enforcement. This bill does it by:
• Requiring mandatory detention for all illegal immigrants apprehended along the border;
• Expedited removal for any illegal aliens apprehended within 100 miles of the border;
• Deploying at least 18,000 more border patrol agents by Dec. 31, 2008;
• Funding and reaffirming the authority of state and local police to apprehend and detain illegal aliens;
• Mandating the use of electronic employment eligibility verification system (formerly voluntary);
• Eliminating loopholes in current law that allows illegal immigrants to receive Social Security benefits from their illegal work, if they are later legalized;
• Banning the use of Matricula Consular cards, identification cards issued to illegal aliens by Mexican consulates to enable them to open bank accounts, buy homes and obtain other forms of identification;
• Making English the official language of the United States government;
• Mandating the full implementation of US-VISIT, the visa entry-exit system intended to track visa overstayers – a critical system to protect us from terrorism; and
• Punishing employers who hire illegal aliens.
As you can see, this is a powerful alternative to the Bush-Kennedy-McCain amnesty bill.

I was talking to this guy that had just gotten out of prison and he was telling me about how the government was going to pay for him to go to college (some rehabilitation thing) and he wasn't sure what courses he was going to take... I was outraged.. here I am a law-bidding citizen and trying to work my way through school on top of supporting myself.. and this guy goes to prison for a few years... and ... gets to go to college for FREE

Now the senators are claiming that the laws they have passed are unenforceable. If they have passed the laws, and Bush has already signed them into law, as well as Presidents before him, how then can they now be unenforceable? Because the senate didn't get their way?
I intend on continuing to email them to finish what they started. Which is to enforce the laws they put on the books. This includes the full 840 plus mile fence, and more border patrol agents. I will also be demanding that they follow through with arresting business owners, and employers who hire the illegals to "exploit" them. This isn't over until they get off their lazy @zzes on the hill, and follow through with past bills that are now the law. The illegals will get nothing but deported. Enough is enough don't you think?!

every child has a "right" to be enrolled in school if they are under 17 thus, children of illegal immigrants are already receiving free primary and secondary education.
as far as ex cons receiving free tuition, if one is convicted of a felony that automatically disqualifies them from many so called federal government entitlement programs
Hey calgal, you shut up. When I went for my student loan they asked about a criminal record. I have no problem, but I wonder about other people trying to change. Is it easier to get an education if you prove you have been illegal for long enough than if you have served time and paid your debt.

I say we do just that, we let it be known that Americans are not willing to foot the bill for illegal immigrants any more. The fact is that it costs far less to deport an ilegal then it does to support them financially for just one year.

Illegal immigrants cost the nation an average of 10.4 billion dollars a year - which includes 2.5 billion in Medicaid, 2.2 billion for the un-insured, 1.9 billion for food assistance, prison and court costs 1.6 billion, school aid 1.4 billion. Average cost of one illegal family $2,700.
With nearly two-thirds of illegal aliens lacking a high school degree, the primary reason they create a fiscal deficit is their low education levels and resulting low incomes and tax payments, not their legal status or heavy use of most social services.
On average, the costs that illegal households impose on federal coffers are less than half that of other households, but their tax payments are only one-fourth that of other households.
And the worst of it :
If illegal aliens were given amnesty and began to pay taxes and use services like households headed by legal immigrants with the same education levels, the estimated annual net fiscal deficit would increase from $2,700 per household to nearly $7,700, for a total net cost of $29 billion.
Although legalization would increase average tax payments by 77 percent, average costs would rise by 118 percent.
