Any personal stories from 1986 immigration reform?
*i'm not asking for opinions on immigration*
Answer:
My mother was a migrant farmer in California in the 1980's. She came here illegally at the age of 24 she had left me behind in Honduras to be raised by my grandmother and 4 cousins. Then came the 1986 amnesty. My mother applied and was accepted, I came here legally in 1990 at the age of 7, she became a resident in 1992 and later a Citizen of the USA in 1996 I became a Citizen in 1998. Because my mother became a citizen in 1996 I was able to become one as well since i was living with my mother and I was underage. I had it easy, while she had to go through the process which she was happy to go through. In the meantime she was able to get married in '90 and gave birth 2 sons. Both of my brothers were born in Miami. At the same time she's been here for more than 24 years, and her English still is bad but she's able to survive working as an Administrator, while my step-dad is a Pastor of a Spanish Church. She's gone from a long way of working the Fields picking cabbage in California to Living in Iowa accomplishing the American Dream.
I know a family who came to the US in 80's from England with a green card and they have never renewed it. Same for a family from Sweden. Once a foreigner gets into the US, they are free and clear to stay. They know it. We know it.
Can't wait to vote in '08.
Take a look at our schools before and after.
Does that count?
