Do Americans think that winning a war makes it morally acceptable?

There was a question about the fact that Americans stole half Mexican territorry...
And they answered that it was their right because they've won the war...

Answer:
You get a star, my friend!

Let me take a different approach to my answering colleagues...
Growing up as a student in American schools and learning history, I remember being very proud of my nation's war history. Why? Because we always won of course! Except maybe unless you count the Civil War, but I'm from NY so I always counted that as a win for me.
Anyway, here's my point... Every war seemed to have a purpose... The American Revolution: Independence, The Civil War: Human Rights, WWII: fight against evil... But it wasn't until I learned about Vietnam, that I realized that war often has no retrospective, historical purpose whatsoever. Most people even today don't know why Vietnam took place, just that it was a pointless waste of life. It looks as if the same results will be gathered in Iraq. In conclusion, it would appear that winning a war certainly makes it easier to find a good purpose for it. There is no morally acceptable war. Win or lose, one side (sometimes both) are always wrong...
Manifest Destiny, so at the time it was moral. Should we still have taken it, yes, the settlers wanted out of Mexico.
"Winners write the history books."
Most countries were founded by the land being taken from someone else, remember Mexican land wasn't thiers originally
The victor writes history...and we always win..
The conflict was ended by a treaty done in accordance with international law. If the Mexican government did not like the treaty, they should have continued the conflict.

Remember, Mexico got off easy from the Treaty because some wanted to annex the entire Mexican nation.
If I'm not mistaken, didn't the Spanish wipe out the Mayans and the Aztecs in order to set up Mexico in the first place? Was that morally acceptable?
When Mexico conspired with Germany during WWI (the Zinnemann incident) to seize control of California and the Southwest, would that have been morally acceptable? Or is one conqueror morally superior to another?
Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo in 1848. We BOUGHT the land for 15 million dollars after we kicked Mexicos butt around the block, which was pretty generous as far as I'm concerned. We could have just taken it as the spoils of war.

Deal with it.

Do the conversion to what that would be today Sparky. That was 15 M in 1848. We also took on an additional 3 M of Mexicos debt as our own.

We bought it.
Your whole premise is blown out of the water.
Thus endeth the history lesson. Thanks for playing.
It is the right of "First effective settlement". The concept that if you occupy an area by whatever means and have retained control it is yours. It is sort of like if you find it then it's yours. The argument could be made that Israel is not the first effective settlement. No one disputes that people of Egypt are the first effective settlement.
Do Mexicans think that whinning about loosing a war, will make them feel better ?
Excuse me, the Spanish conquered Mexico, creating you, does that make them wrong? EVERY nation on earth was conquered by one or another in history. Perhaps, we, as a nation, need to look to expand again. THAT would take care of the problem.
Beats the hell of losing a war,the spanish declared what is now the southern US to be theirs, the mexicans declared it theirs because they kick the spanish butt when they won their independence, the Texicans of which many were mexicans themselves won their independence from mexico and took it from the mexicans, the real owners were not the mexicans but native americans which were first victimized by the spanish
Up to the 1950's Guatemala, was part of mexico, then they became a seperate nation, why don't mexicans go and claim it,the reason is that Guatemala is in worse shape than mexico, which proves that what mexico wants is what americans have created and built in this country
it is not morally acceptable. they are just dumb. I am american and it sucks to have to see that. what is the use of a war huh?? what do you gain>??
I don't see what morality has to do with it. The peoples that were pushed of their lands and butchered weren't Mexicans anyway. They were as much invaders as the Europeans. Try making some sense.
No it wasn't right what America did in the M - A war.

But, as they say - "Might makes Right"

It's not like we're the only country to do this.
