Should the US put a moratorium on immigration?

For example, 5 years or 10 years.

This could allow the US to better track and exterminate terrorists already in the country.

Also, could allow illegal immigrants already in the country the opportunity to obtain citizenship legally. With or without government help.

Answer:
Lax immigration policies are definitly a problem. I've been following the movement down in the southwest where they are trying to grant illigal immagrants the same rights as citizens.

The problem is people have started acting like immigrants have the RIGHT to move into the U.S.A. They don't. Immigration is not a right, it's a privalage - that in my opinion, we extend to too many people.

And for all the illegals who want to be treated like citizens - I say, if you want the same privilages, go get your citizenship!Cause if you're here without permission, you have no right to expect equal treatment!
Immigration. What a joke. Get the Mexicans out of this country and back to mexico. They are spreading across this country like the wild fires.
I wish they would find the terrorists and leave everyone else alone. My fiance got deported and we have a 7 yr old son together that was born in az and im pregnant again- its not fair the crap we are going threw just to be together and it is because of all there f*d up immigration laws there passing.
Yes on moratorium
No on amnesty. Immediate deportation with extreme prejudice of all existing illegals. Anyone harboring an illegal immigrant will pay a fine equal to one years gross salery or face revocation of citizenship followed by deportation. Any company found to be knowingly employing illegal immigrants Will pay a fine equal to one half a years gross salery.
The U.S. should close the borders immediately and start manning checkpoints across the country. Everyone should have to show identification at these checkpoints and if it is found that people don't have identifications they should be arrested until their identity can be verified. no more wait no more Mr. Nice Guy. let's go citizens. Let's start taking pictures and ensuring that we get these lawbreakers registered and watched. We've had enough.
Of course we should have a moratorium. A moratorium is nothing new for American immigration. With each large phase of immigrants in the past, there were long pauses, sometimes decades in between, that allowed new-comers to assimilate into our culture. We've had non-stop immigration into the U.S. for over 40 years bringing in as many as 2 million people every year. The U.S. receives three times as many immigrants than all other industrialized countries in the world combined. We've been more than generous. With our population topping 300 million (a more than ample population), it's time to take a break and let things mellow out... unless our goal is to become another China or India as quickly as we can, which I hope it isn't. That's not good for the environment, for our culture, or for our national identity. I say 20 years is a fair moratorium.
We definitely have to limit immigration, too many people places a burden on our resources. There is a legal way to enter this country, and those not here legally should be deported (once our borders are secured), and allowed to apply for work visas, green cards, or whatever, through the proper legal channels. Aside from deportation they should not be treated as criminals, they are only guilty of seeking a better life.
Immigration laws need to be modified. Specifically: 1. Being born here should not qualify for automatic citizenship, unless the parents are American Citizens. 2. Coming here legally should not qualify you to bring all your relatives also. They must also apply as you did, individually.
Yes, they should put a moratorium on ALL immigration for 10 years to straighten out the people we have here. .

NO LEGALITY FOR CRIMINAL INVADERS (illegal aliens) !
All I can say is if they pass this amnesty in my opinion there is no other choice to but to stop immigration all together for a period of time. A new taco stand and another cingular wireless store or another McDonalds isn't the type of jobs they are creating that will sustain this economy. Too many jobs are leaving this country at record rates to sustain all the legal and illegal immigrants they claim to "need".

There are going to be drastic problems getting people on the same page to keep this country going or else we're going to be a mini world with pockets of ethnic groups trying to re-create their homeland and we already know that's not going to work.

The way I see it..this country has been delt some severe blows and we have to figure out how were going from here and we don't need millions comming year after while the "American" dream becomes a distant memory.
