Question about about sponsoring someone and visas...?
Answer:
That depends if you will be gettin married or not. Do not fill out form I-864 as someone has said. That is used to make an action on an approved petition in a US consular post abroad, since you are not married yet, there is no basis for your bf to adjust status. I-134 is the affidavit of support and you need to look up the minimum income for a family of two.
Here are the poverty guidelines for 2007 which will tell you how much income you should declare

There is a form you fill out about your income. On that form there is usually an income expectation list that says something like "If your household has this many member you need to make X amount of dollars."
If you don't see that I would suggest calling the immigration 800#, they are extremely helpful. Look in the front of your telephone book in the blue edged pages.
Form I-864 needs to be filled out regardless. Shhh! Nobody needs to know your master plan. Once he lands here I am sure he will be able to figure out what to do. He can't be less resourceful than the Mexicans.
You need to go the www.state.travel.gov and click on visa then you need to get the poverty guide to determine what the government considers. I sponsored my husband and for a family of 4 I had to make at least $25,000. You have certain steps that should be done and they have to be done in order. After the affadavit of support you still have to wait for the case to be completed and then you have to have an interview scheduled. This takes a while. My husband had his case completed in April 2006 and we are still waiting for an appointment. I wish you and your boyfriend the very best of luck. You just have to be patient.
